Change of Formation

After years of playing with a 4-4-2 formation I am just wondering if maybe, just maybe a new formation would be a good idea. I think 5-3-2 would work well. Here's my case:

The Reasons
----------
There are 3 good out and out centre backs now available in Ferdinand, Blanc and now O'Shea.

Silvestre is well known for going missing from the left back position, allowing opponents to attack down his side.

With Scholes and Keane both out at the moment we are a stretched a bit in midfield.

We have nobody who can score a lot of goals with their head (or even win a lot of headers), therefore making two wingers a bit of a waste.

The Formation
--------------
If Silvsestre and one of the Nevilles were wing backs, (Silvestre plays that way anyway) they would have scope to get forward more knowing the were covered by the spare centre back. How many goals have United conceded where the full back is caught too far up the pitch.

Secondly, we do not have any great aerial presence any more, Beckham and Giggs are wasted as wingers, why not tuck them in a little and let them vary their play more. How many corners did we have against Spurs on Saturday, 11 I think and not a single one was won by a United player.

We are playing with only four recognized midfielders at the moment, therefore Giggs, Butt, Veron and Beckham are almost guaranteed a starting spot, which is never a good thing. If that was reduced to 3 competition would be increased.

errr i thought we were playing a new formation most of last season, some of this season (including last night)..
