CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DRAW POTS
* Team in play-offs. Should this team fail to qualify for the group stage the others below would move up a position. So for instance if FC Porto fail to qualify then Schalke would move into pot 1, and therefore Leverkusen into pot 2.

Pot 1

Real Madrid
Barcelona
Bayern Munich
Chelsea
Benfica
Atletico Madrid
Arsenal *
FC Porto *

Pot 2

Schalke
Borussia Dortmund
Juventus
Paris Saint-Germain
Shakhtar Donetsk
FC Basel
Zenit St Petersburg *
Man City

Pot 3

Bayer Leverkusen *
Olympiakos
CSKA Moscow
Ajax
Napoli *
Liverpool
Sporting Lisbon
Galatasaray

Pot 4
TBA but Anderlecht, AS Roma and AS Monaco will feature.

Hope Liverpool's group looks like:

Real madrid
PSG
Liverpool
Roma

Ffs, can't believe we won't be in this. Thanks Moyes, thanks his boys!

So if we qualify for the UCL the following season, will missing out this coming season effect our rating/pot?

I've heard it's based on the last five seasons so I don't think so, could be mistaken though.

This won't sink in until the first CL game of the new season :(
True......it's no problem for me since the Everton match......but it will deffo hurt in September (Even in August for the draw)

But hey we can finally play again in the 2nd of the League Cup next season :D (With our luck in the draws.....it will be still a PL club)

Surreal not seeing our name in Pot 1

This is really gonna sink in when the draw is made

It's sad that there will be a constant reminder of how Moyes f*cked our club next season every time we watch a CL game.

Thanks to Moyes, Porto gets one last year in Pot 1. We used to do better when we were in Pot 2 though, these past 3 seasons were shit.

Pot 1 can't be that hard to get into, as Arsenal make it just for getting through the group stages every year. They don't really do anything once they're in the knock out stages.

Past 5 seasons:

13/14 - Last 16
12/13 - Last 16
11/12 - Last 16
10/11 - Last 16
09/10 - Quarter final

Liverpool have done well to maintain a reasonably high standing given their European and more specifically; Champions League exile in recent seasons. I suppose it goes to show the fluctuation between a lot of the better sides over the last few years when Juventus, PSG and Dortmund have only recently moved up to pot two sides.

Liverpool are quite unfortunate to not have any very strong sides in their pot. I mean Roma, a pot four side, are a better side than any side in Liverpool's pot. Unlikely for them to avoid a tough draw.

Is there any chance of Liverpool jumping to pot 2 if teams in top pots fail to win their qualifiers?

That's the current standing. If this system looks as simple as the table above and assuming we're back for the following season, we'll lose the points from 09/10 as they won't count. Liverpool got 3.3 for this season as they didn't compete in Europe so we can assume we can get a similar amount, that will put us at 103-104 points.

Seems like we'll be out of pot 1 for at least 2 seasons as in 16/17 points from 10/11 (CL final) won't count.

If we qualify for the CL next season:

10/11: 36.6710
11/12: 16.0500
12/13: 21.2856
13/14: 26.3570
14/15: 03.3570

Total: 103.7206

Pretty much the low end of Pot 1. We'd just have to hope Atletico and Valencia don't do really well next season.

Edit: Atletico will very likely overtake us. You get 4 points for just being in the group stages and 2 points for every win. Another 5 for getting to the Round of 16 too. With them being in the groups, that's 4 points to them. Another 3.5 to them for their league ranking which means just a win in the group stages next seasion will put Atletico ahead of us in in the next ranking.

No.

LFC is no 32 on the UEFA ranking list (58.950 points). Even if all teams with an asterisk in Mel_F's list above fail to qualify, LFC would be the first team in pot 3.

So to minimize the long-term Moyes impact, LVG will need to get us back into the competition next year and then also do very well in 15/16 as the CL final points of 10/11 will roll off.

If I'm not mistaken, not just Atletico could overtake you.

All teams playing either CL surviving the group stage or play the EL and go a bit far will easily gain 15-20 points. Therefore, also AFC, Porto, Inter (qualified for EL), and Schalke have a good chance to overtake you; even Dortmund if we succeed.

IIRC, the main difference between the CL and EL is that you can gain more bonus points in the CL but in both competitions you get 2 points for every win. That's the reason I've never understood complaints about playing "only" EL: Surely not as attractive as CL but important to maintain and/or boost your UEFA coefficient.

Am I the only one who doesn't want Liverpool to be in the same group as any of the big teams (RM, Barca, Bayern)? I don't care if they get battered by these teams but I don't want such teams to play at Anfield (imagine the prematch hype - stats about how Ronaldo/Messi fared at Anfield, Anfield and its history...urrgh!!)

I'd like to see them in a group similar to ours the year when we lost out in the group stages - relatively smaller teams which will then encourage RAWK posts about how it would be their year only for them to fail in the group stages and our "RAWK Meltdown 2014-15" bursting into life!
I'd like to see the Scouse Boom to be busted a little bit, in every quarter of the next season.

EDIT:

Sorry for the off topic post. It's really depressing to not see Manchester United in there.. :(

It will be werid not seeing United in this, but hilarious at the same time.

Bloody hell - I was literally looking for us thinking 'why the hell aren't we in pot 1?' . This is gonna take some getting used to!

Is it bitter of me to hate the fact that Leverkusen are in the CL even though they have been even shitter than us this season just gone?

Unfair :(
They still need to survive the qualification. I expect them to do, despite having a new manager and a fairly new team, but just sayin' it's not guaranteed they'll come through. :)
