Cesar Menotti, RIP

From what I read there was an interesting constrast with him and Bilardo in Argentinian football, he was the maverick. Good quote of his:

"There's a right-wing football and a left-wing football. Right-wing football wants to suggest that life is struggle. It demands sacrifices. We have to become of steel and win by any method... obey and function, that's what those with power want from the players. That's how they create retards, useful idiots that go with the system"

RIP Flaco, as it's normal, I wasn't always on his side with some views. But his taste in football palyers was impecable, he created teams that were quite lyrical and he was quite a charcater and quite a speaker.

PD: without him, Argentina would have never an organized NT team, from youngsters to the Senior team, he also did a fantastic job finding players and creating a mystic that today is the basement of everything. Prior to that period from him, it was all quite a fecking mess.

RIP, that was a fantastic Argentina team to watch in 1978.

Great coach and even greater personality. I remember watching him several times on Mexican TV as a pundit and always came away impressed at his intelligence and eloquence. He transformed the Argentinean football team from being a talented, yet dirty and occasionally violent lot to an ball playing, attacking powerhouse. Guardiola has several times mentioned Menotti as a great influence on him.

In South America it's nearly always Argentine punditry and it's unbelievable how much better their footballing knowledge is, and how creative their language is and their discourse and passion brings you so much more of the intricacies of the game. And then you have El Bambino Pons who brings it to a whole new level with the whole pop culture humor added in. Sorry so many Europeans and Americans are missing out on it.

Totally agree. Argentine punditry might be the best in the world. I can only comapre it to chilean, US and british punditry though, but the argentinians are on another level to those.

I beg to differ in some points talked here.

I'll tell you that we don't have great punditry like we used to had, not even near, we have lots of silly idiots "journos".
Maybe we don't have every media outlet full of yellow press, like it seems the case in Mexico in these last years that plays some sort of Chiringuito sort of show, but we are not far from that scenario either, really really close to that shyte.

I do think that right now the best Narrator is Mariano Closs, he might be an arse as a person like it's rumoured, but man he gets almost every fecking call right, never confuses a player and never looses the rythim of the game (Side note: he plays really well too, like Matias Martin, very skill fellas). And with Latorre they make a great combo for matches. Even if I do not endorse everything Latorre says. Of course if Valdano or other argie football coaches or ex players are called to a program, they actually for a change end talking about football and that is sadly a rarity.
PD: That old program with the Legend Perfumo and Victor Hugo was fantastic, but cleary far from that type of program right now.
PD2: I don't think Bambino Pons actually is a great narrator, he is quite awuful, he confuses players the whole time and he already tired me with his silly songs.
PD3: I fecking love Brazilian Narrators, portuguese sounds fantastic.

And finally, the truth is that we never were historically more dirty than other NTs from older eras, the main issue was that due to been so disorganized, because of many factors, that included our own rules and Union problems since day one, the NT in the path lost lots of credit and players felt they would loosing prestige if they were called.

Menotti mostly did an overhaul from the very ground, he got scouts travelling the whole country, he oblied teams to release players, he asked for better training grounds, etc...all those things and more actually changed the whole scenario.
Today the training grounds are great and the will and desire to wear the shirt it's great.
Now the problem for me is how to do sthg similar of what Menotti and Pekerman did in their days with youngsters in conjuction with clubs, the clubs are quite a mess with youngsters due to this whole new Globalist+Social Media and their 9 years old agent players and them leaving the country at a very young age for peanuts, also the League and Cups are a fecking mess changing their format every fecking day.
Sorry for the long post!
