Celtic are in discussions with Manchester United over the possibility of taking Netherlands under-21 Alexander Buttner on loan for the season.
The left-back signed for the reigning English champions in 2012 after four impressive years with Vitesse in the Netherlands, but has struggled to break into the first team.
Neil Lennon's side have been investigating the possibility of taking the player on loan for the season, a move that would be welcomed by the player according to his agent.
Aleksander Bursac, who represents Buttner, told STV: "Yes, Celtic would like to take the player on loan for the season.
"We feel it would greatly help the boy's development to be playing regularly at that level and in European football. Celtic are a really great club.
"They (Celtic) have been back and forward in dialogue with Manchester United. It's in their hands now as we are not sure if they want to release him."
Buttner may only have been involved in 13 games at Old Trafford, but has scored two goals for the club, scoring against Wigan and West Brom in the Premiership last season.

I don't care where it goes, just never let it near a united shirt again. Please for the love of Cantona.

Let's move him to an advanced position, he can follow the footsteps of his idol - Gareth bale

He isn't better than Emilio Izaguirre, so unless he (Emilio Izaguirre) is
moving (being linked as a possible Baines replacement) then it wouldn't be a great move. Although I have to say, he would be great craic in the SPL.

With or without Baines at United, I don't think that Buttner will play much this season.

Izaguirre hasn't been in the best of form for a while now so I wouldn't rule out Buttner getting a fair bit of game time at Celtic at all.

That's true but he is better than Buttner nonetheless and he has had some bad injuries to be fair.

Buttner is a winger masquerading as a full back. The lad cannot defend

Ah you are right, lets hope he sits on the bench or better still breaks his leg because he obviously has disgraced all of us by accepting a contract at Manchester United the filthy gypo how dare he?

You're odd.

No not wanting a player to do well just because you dont think he is good enough for us is odd. Whats wrong with wanting him to do well at Celtic and either prove people wrong or get himself a good move?

Who said there was anything wrong with it? On a personal level I hope he does well but I don't think he has a future here. Your last post was meant to be funny, I think? It was pathetic.

Reading that thread, I think Celtic fans are in for a rude shock.

No it wasnt meant to be funny. What was your issue with my post then if you dont want him to do well? What exactly did I say wrong about wanting him to have a chance to play against the big boys in their CL group?

Yeah I reckon he would be great to watch in the SPL. He only knows how to attack and he will get away with his defensive deficiencies a hell of a lot more playing there.

True enough. Frankly its a pretty sweet deal for Buttner. He's likely to end his first two seasons in the U.K. as a league title winner on both sides of the border. A lot of players will never win that much.

Oh that's good because it was anti-funny if ever there was such a thing. I thought you were insinuating that if he goes there and does well against the 'big boys' then he may have a future here. My point was that it doesn't really matter what he does there as he clearly has absolutely no future here as he quite frankly is nowhere near good enough (harsh but very true). But yeah, on a personal level I hope he does well there. He should be fun to watch in the SPL. I'm currently watching the Dundee v Celtic match and it is dour, would love to see Buttner in these kind of games to liven them up.
