I know this was a topic ahile back,.. but I didn't get to see much of the answers, so pardon me if i'm re=posting somethin someone did awhile back.

I am just like to know if anyone in the " spotlight " openly supports our football club. With so many bands coming out of Manchester, they can't all love City ( blech!!!
 ) I had heard that Morrisey was a Man Utd fan, but I don't know if it was true. Just curious.

There was a film that is coming out in november in the states called Formula 51 ( or something like that..with Sam Jackson and Robert Carlyle ) and the 1st trailer I saw for it I went nuts.. becasue they showed a bunch of Man Utd fans in a pub, and Carlyle has a red jersey on aswell.. underneath a blue sports jacket... So I was over joyed that they were finally making a flim with a Manchester United fan. THen I read up that it was set in Liverpool  and that Carlyle is a poolie puddle boy. I know by now that all they are going to do in the film is make jabs and fun at us. Just be nice if they made a film with some Manchester United content.

Fever Pitch would have been a great film if he was a Man Utd fan and it was set during the treble season.

Yep it is, I lived there for a few months, but hated it down south, so came back home. :D But when I signed up a few years ago I lived down there.

Cheeky Bastard

I'm a Manc, and proud to support a team with MANCHESTER in the title, that doesn't make me a massive, it makes me a Manc who's proud of the team, that I love and grew up with, MANCHESTER United :D

James What's-his-face from Cold Feet

Glory Hunter, He omly supports MANCHESTER UNITED because they are successful, if WE won as much as Stockport he wouldn't give a shit

Hornchurch did you travel to OT to watch the games when you were down in essex?
I could bring up the fact that most man utd supporters live outside of manchester but we have done that one before i travel 68 miles each way not far really when i could travel 3 miles to mansfield town or 10 to notts forest. I started supporting utd in 76 when they were winning nowt and forest were so am i classed as a glory hunter?

I think and Hope, that most everyone here is a True Man Utd fan. Too much emotion envolved not to be. I'm lucky I was born a 3rd generation fan, my Grandfather never missed a match since he was 16,... ( except on the day he married my Grandma,.. and from what my Mum says she wa lucky just to get him to the chapel that day ;) ).

I think out side of all the people that just instantly jump on, most are true fans. It's the greatest CLub to support and follow no matter how well they have done over the years... we have always had the best players, legends.. history and fans any sport in the world could dream for.

so am i classed as a glory hunter?

Yes :) In the 1970's Manchester United werethe biggest team in Britain in the 1970's. They drew the biggest support and got the most press coverage. So you decide to support the biggest supported team in England, and turn your back on your local community, No that doesn't make you a glory supporter

Of course I went to games at OT whne I lived in Essex, I went home to see my family and killed two birds with one stone. I'm a Mancunian and will always gravitate towards my hometown. :D

I've never lived in Manchester and the closest team to the area where I grew up was Sheff Utd. My Dad and his Dad were both born in Manchester and my Grandad lived in Salford all his life. My Dad moved out of Manchester for work reasons but he'd always go to OT on a Saturday and take me with him. I grew up supporting United but, according to your rationale, I should support Sheff Utd, right?

You're an idiot man. There's nowt wrong with your pride in being Mancunian (if, indeed, you are) and supporting all things Manchester, however, for you not to be able to 'understand' how someone would rather support United than A N Other team is tantamount to stupidity.

You've tried to argue your point every time you come on here but in all honesty, I think you are a bored, sad, lonely person who gets off on trying to wind real United supporters up. I'd even go as far as to say that you merely attend the U of M in Fallowfield and you're actually from Hornchurch.

Either way, grow up.

Sean Connery is a Red. He stopped a 60 Minutes tv interview to watch United play on tv from his home in the Bahamas a few years back. :D

Now I know for a fact that Johnny Marr is a City fan because he used to be a regular (I don't know about now), he's at least as big a fan as any of the Gallaghers...

Of The Smiths, Andy Rourke and Morrissey were United fans though I don't think that Morrissey was that committed...

Johnny Marr and Mike Joyce were both Siddy fans...

Collectively they were the best band ever to come from Manchester... ...

Morrissey said that he found Frank Stapleton "strangely sexy".

I didnt.

How dare you accuse me of being a bitter. I am not one to normally discuss how I came to follow the shirts but in your case I'll make an exception.I come from the school of thought where I definitely support the team but not the club, especially when that parasite Edwards was involved. I can proudly say that I've never felt the need to wear a replica shirt believing them to belong on the backs of kids and, er, footballers. How many moustachioed, kappa-wearing bitters can claim that?
I have followed me Dad and all of the rest of the family in Fallowfield in revelling in their stories of watching the end of the'48 Cup winning team, the emergence of the Babes and then Busby
rebuilding the club throughout the 1960's before watching it self destruct in the '70's.

I started supporting the shirts in the late seventies (between the Doc and Sexton) and started going just before Mr Bojangles took over. I very clearly remember getting hammered off
me Mam for shouting 'F*&k' just as John Motson shouted '...and Smith must score' in '83 and promising those around me at Wembley in '85
that I'd dish out the same sort of punishment to that c*** Peter Willis when he sent off Moran two years later. I can vividly remember being annoyed at Frank Stapleton for holding back Kev' when it looked like he was about to lamp the Major Ron Ferguson look-a-like but then not being bothered when the Shankhill Skinhead curled that beauty
past the binman.

It was after that I was considered old enough to go with me mates and so I had the priviledge of seeing Peter Davenport miss the easiest chance ever against Middlesborough (spooned it over
from 1 yard) and years later had the greater pleasure of hearing his explanation when our kid asked him how hed managed it in a Crewe canteen ('F*** off', I think it was).

I remember applauding when the 'Fergie out' chant started at Millwall in '89 (how many of us would
admit to that now, eh?) and I have seen Ralph Milne score for us against Forest.I was in the crowd of 23,000 when we played Wimbledon at the end of that season. I can remember predicting that Jim Leighton was about to let in a 40 yard up'n'under by a Southampton player and being gutted to be proved right. I remember thinking that Guiliano Maiorana was going to better a superstar and I turned up at Billy Garton's testimonial. I could go on to mention my version of the '90's but you'd only think that was after I had hitched a ride on the band wagon wouldn't you?

I do think that it's sad that we should be so short sighted that any praise of another club or its personnel should render us being branded as a blue/geordie/scouser/whatever. I remember attending the Munich testimonial match a few years ago and being profoundly embarrased, depressed and disgusted as I saw two lads selling a book about the great Tommy Taylor and seeing some bakes, dressed in their full replica gear, responding with the shout of 'Who the f*** is he?'
Maybe it's this sort of fan that you should save your vitriol for rather than those of us that don't have our heads buried up our own ar*e.

Little Hulton is in Salford.

Yes I know it's part of Salford, I never said it wasn't, but it is 4 miles from Bolton town centre, it's 8 miles from Manchester city centre, so is therefore near Bolton :p :p

Morrisey has a song.... Roy's Keen

Roy's Keen
(GO ON)
He's romancing you
and chancing his arm
He'll be here
Smiling on time
He's romancing you
and chancing his arm
He'll be here
Smiling on time
Roy's keen, oh Roy's keen
Roy's keen, oh Roy's keen
We've never seen a keener
Window cleaner
Back up the ladder
Into each corner
Dunking the chamois
Just think of the goodwill
The ladders are planets
Roy is a star, and
I am a satellite
But that's alright
He can hold a smile
For as long as you require
(Even longer)
He can hold a smile
For as long as you require
(Even longer)
Roy's keen oh, Roy's keen
Roy's keen oh, Roy's keen
We've never seen a keener
Window cleaner
Back up the ladder
Into each corner
Dunking the chamois
Just think of the goodwill
The ladders are planets
Roy is a star, and
I am a satellite
I will be set alight
Don't say you'll hold it steady
Then you let it go
Don't say you'll hold it steady
Then you let it go
You're up the ladder
Into each corner
Fraught in a bucket
We trust you to wreck it
Even when it's under your nose
Well, you just can't see it, can you?
Well, it's here
And you just can't see it, can you?
Roy's keen, Roy's keen
Roy's keen, Roy's keen
We've never seen a keener
Window cleaner

On stage, Morrissey used to play tambourine with Cantona's name written on it.
