That's me.

Injuries permitting, I can only see us improving on last season.

A defensive combination of Silvestre, Gary N, Blanc, Rio and John O'Shea.

A midfield combination of Becks, Giggs, Scholes, Butt, Keane and Veron (and possibly Forlan)

A strike force of Ruud, Ole, and Forlan.

Another striker would be good, and our squad is, admittedly, a bit lightweight.

But if we can get by without further serious injuries, we look pretty good imo.

Obviously we do need to strengthen, but the run of injuries must end soon surely.

And Arsenal have conceded four goals in two games. :D

Can we ignore all the doom-laden posts and concentrate on my happy one. :)

I'm more than 'cautiously' optimistic tbh. I think the next day or two will see one or two new faces in the shirt and that will obviously increase competition for places.

The win tonight was basically the insurance the PLC needed before releasing the funds for purchases.

Hopefully a capable striker and a RB/LB will come in.

If fergie's 4-4-1-1 formation is starting to work out, then I don't think we'll see another striker. But I haven't seen Ole take that lone striker role, so if Ruud got injured, we probably will play 4-4-2 with Solksjaer and Forlan upfront.
As for the defence, can we just stick to the players we have now? I think if Gary and Brown back to bussiness we would have a pretty good defence.

cheers..

Remember a run of game around Christmas in 2000, when Ole was the only fit striker we had? He carried us more or less by himself.

And against Charlton a couple of seasons ago, and Leeds at ER last year, Ole and Giggs showed that they can work quite well together.

So he can do it, but I wouldn't want to see it particularly. He's no Rambo. :)

Throw Phil Neville and Brown into the equation and I see no need for any more additions to the squad in defence.

The only reason for our interest in Escude is that something's gone wrong with Silvestre's contract. :(

A goalie to back up Carrol and a striker would probably be necessary though.
