CARR IN TRAINING GROUND BUST-UP
Sunday July 14 2002

Premiership champions Arsenal are reportedly monitoring the developments at White Hart Lane after it was revealed that Stephen Carr was involved in a pre-season training ground bust-up with a member of the Spurs training team in La Manga.

Carr reportedly had a heated a heated exchange with a member of the coaching staff during the club's trip to Spain and is now on a collision course with the club and set to leave White Hart Lane.

Arsenal are known to have coveted the fullback for a long time and this may just be the opportunity for them to pounce.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who has been looking for a replacement for Lee Dixon, who retired at the end of last season, sees Carr as a ready-made option. The Frenchman is believed to be willing to pay the asking price thought to be in the region of £15million.

Carr has two years left on his contract and would jump at the chance of playing Champions League football at Highbury next season.

Why aren't we listed as being interested in Carr? IMO he would be an excellent signing. He's proven himself at right full and so would provide great cover for Gaz or allow Gaz to play in the centre. Maybe he could even be converted to left-side in the same way as Denis Irwin. Any thoughts? I reckon we should start a Steve Carr to OT campaign before the gooners jump on him!!!

Fergie's been a big fan of Carrs for a while and the only reason he was looking at Finnan was because Carr was injured. Carr would jump at the chance to come to OT as he is a lifelong fan. In an interview he was asked who he supported as a kid - MUFC, what was his favourite ground - OT etc. He is a fabulous player and I'd love to see him in the team. :D

what the heck is it with irish blokes and training ground bust-ups eh   nut-cases the lot of em....
re this carr bloke, personally 15 mil for a player not tested after his injury is nutty....personally think finnan would be better....besides we also have wes brown, who's excellent cover for the right flank....it's the left flank we should be losing finger nails over.....definitely need cover for the left , also Silvestre doesn't exactly inspire confidence in one, does he? ;)

I detect a hint of sarcasm there Amir but Fergie didn't let that stand in the way with Ruud and there is no doubt that Carr is quality defender. Steve is a United fan, a mate of mine from college played schoolboys soccer with him for Portmarnoch in Dublin and he told me that before. I reckon he'd be a great signing. Either way, I'd hate to see him go to the Arse, that would be a top top signing for them!

for 5-7 mill, it would be a good investment.
that is unless Fergie doesnt already have someone in mind.

Carr is a world class defender.Fergie will sign him if things fall right..as long as he passes the medical.

Ruud actually played several matches before we signed him.

I agree hes a great RB, probably the best in the PL,- definately the best attacking RB in the PL IMO.

But- We have Gaz, a decent RB and team leader, and it would take an even better player than Carr to justify taking him out.

Added to that Carr's injuries(he has some history), and considering the asking price it looks unlikely.

I'd expect us to go for a lower profile full back that would not demand a starting place immediately, one up and coming or an older pro. And ideally one that that can play both flanks.

what a contradiction mate, first of all you agree the Carr is probably one of the best attacking Fullbacks in the Premiership and therefore one would assume would improve our team. Your reasoning though for not adding him to the squad (leaving out fees) is purely because we have Gary Neville "A decent Back" your words not mine. Yes Gary is a decent back but just because he is a red through and through does'nt give him the right to be in the squad if there are better alternatives on the market.

Carr would be a suberb signing and his work rate down the right wing is every bit as good as Carlos on the left. Only difference is that Stevie can defend a bit aswell and would only cost half as much.

So given the choice between a decent bloke, and a better player, we are going for the decent bloke?

I was thinking more of the chemistry of the team, Gaz is a strong personality in the team and that is a factor aside from his football ability worth weighing up IMHO. Its not black and white- this one is better so chuck that one.
Carr is better, but is he soo much better to justify taking out Gaz?
