Out of the blue this one, got a couple of hammers mates that were delighted with the transfer window. Not sure they'll be too happy now though, knowing that the Turkish window doesn't close until Monday and that Galatasaray have placed a bid for Cole, an opportunity these famous (Sky Sources ) reckon Cole would relish.

He'd be an idiot to go there - would end his England chances. Needs to stay at West Ham and rediscover the form he found under Zola.

He'd be an idiot to live in a better climate, get better wages, play for a better supported team with partizan support and have a chance to win trophies?

If it wasn't clear enough, I'd just like to clarify that I disagree.

Yeah, he'd be an idiot to do that. He was linked with Liverpool just 18 months ago, he's not ready to be consigned to the Turkish league just yet. Should stay here and sort himself out. His form actually looks promising this season - he could really prosper under Allardyce.

I prefer it when English players go abroad and broaden their horizon's, not enough players do it.

If he kicks on there he could put himself back in the shop window for some of Europe's better clubs.

Are people dissing the Turkish league? If he played for Gala, he'd get to play in Europe, and next season possibly the CL.

Hell of a lot better than playing in the Championship.

That's what I think too, and add the climate and support to that. I don't get why we have this attitude that someone is "better off" in the Championship.

This wouldn't be a bad thing.

Also, if Cole doesn't get picked I doubt its because he's playing in Turkey. Capello picked Beckham eventhough he was playing in the equivalent of the League 2 football.

I've just looked at their squad - Eboue, Milan Baros and all. I reckon most of those players would drop everything to sign for West Ham, who have got to be favourites to go back up. I think it would be a step down.

His England chances will be very limited if he stays at West Ham. Ideally he should move to Galatasaray on loan and then try to find a PL club or stay at West Ham if they are promoted. Don't forget that Euro 2012 comes next year and it's doubtful that Capello would take a player from second tier with him.

Eboue would drop everything to sign for West Ham?

Are you seriously telling me Eboue couldn't find another team in England after leaving Arsenal? ha ha, wtf!

Pretty certain Eboue would've laughed at any offer from the Championship. Think about it Baldwin, seriously.

Elmander, Ujfalusi, Baros, Muslera, Melo and Eboue are solid and I reckon they probably have a few talented Turks as well although the most talented one has obviously left this year.

Elmander too, Bolton desperately wanted him to stay but he went there... strange that, you'd have thought he'd have "jumped at the chance" to leave Bolton and drop into the Championship.

They have a good squad, if I was Carlton Cole I know I'd prefer to be playing with that squad and have a chance of winning things rather than playing in the Championship... no question!

Why would any player want to play in the championship rather than at galatasaray?

Gala have a shed load of cash so he's probably on a fairly lucrative contract, that and the fact that he'll probably enjoy European football, while playing in the sunny Mediterranean.

Don't know about you guys, but to me that beats wet, midweek trips to Coventry and Barnsley.

Why play in Turkey?

Here's Guti arriving:

and this is Lugano leaving, as in being sold, exiting, leaving - talk about a send off

Hope Cole goes,

Because it's an easy route back into the PL?

And playing for a relegation battling team? Which will just as likely go down the very next season? Nah, playing for trophies and in the cl is far better.

The point is that whatever people think of Cole, he's someone long earmarked for arriving at a top PL club one day and having an international career. Perhaps that looks less likely at the moment, but he needs to stay here and fight. 2 years ago he looked very good at W Ham with Zola and Clarke helping him, was linked to Liverpool, played for England etc

He's only in his mid-20's - he should be trying to get back there.

I'm all for players going abroad - I think J Cole has done the right thing going to Lille, but I know that European games aside the quality of football he'll play is going to be pretty poor. Great atmosphere yes, but he'll be training alongside lesser players and competing against lesser players and he'll suffer for it. There's the right time to go abroad - like Joe Cole has done, and the wrong time, like in this incident, or Michael Mancienne's case. Mancienne is going to really struggle to stay in the England picture now.

Is it true that Galatasaray aren't in the CL next season? Why would he do it then? He'd be better off getting promotion with the Hammers and finishing the season as top scorer in the Championship - that would go a long way to resurrecting his career.

You seem to think that there's no football outside England. Mancienne has gone to Bundesliga, the same Bundesliga in which ALL Germans who beat England 4-1 at the World Cup a year ago played. The reason why Mancienne will be nowhere near national side is that he is far behind the likes of Smalling and Jones in terms of talent and actual ability.

Lesser players? Gala would smash West Ham.

Would they? I'm not entirely convinced they would and this whole thing begs a rather obvious question - if they're such a great side why are they interested in Carlton Cole?

Of course they'd hammer the hammers.

And since Turks aren't the tallest of players, a 6ft3 giant like Cole would score goals for fun in that league.

Its not like his chances are great right now. If Bent, Carroll, Welbeck and Defoe are fit, then there is no way Cole can play. He is already 6th or 7th choice.

Nope.

They certainly have a better team then WHU. Why are they interested in Cole? You answered that yourself earlier in this thread, his potential.

Carlton Cole is a pretty shit player to be honest.

Baldwin, you're doing both Galatasary and the Turkish league a great disservice, as they are much much better than the West ham and the championship.

And Mancienne's move wasn't wrong because of the timing, its wrong because he's not all that and isn't as good as Terry/Ferdinand/Woodgate/Dawson/Cahill/Shawcross/Jones/Smalling are and I feel that Caulker will be better than him within a couple of season too.

Playing abroad should be seen as a positive opportunity for English players and at Gala, he'd be playing in a reasonable league with a reasonable team, competing in Europe and living in a nice country.

I can't quite see why he should want to stay at West Ham.

ever think that maybe just maybe he might actually prefer to stay at West Ham, regardless of the weather etc?
