A car has driven into a crowd of people in Mannheim, Germany, according to reports.

A spokesperson for Mannheim police said: “There is currently a police operation in Mannheim city center, in the area around Wasserturm/Plankenkopf. Police and rescue services are on their way.”

Mannheim University Hospital says it has prepared everything for a possible mass casualty incident, German news agency dpa is reporting.

The hospital has implemented its disaster and emergency plan to prepare for the care of the injured.

At least one person has been killed and several others serioiusly injured after a car was driven into a crowd, police have just said in a new statement.

One suspect has been arrested, with police saying it is unclear whether there are other suspects.
