Can we please just have a sensible choice for captain? Maguire turned into a gibbering wreck when he was captain and has only recently recovered. Bruno has dropped off a cliff and actually treats the ball like a hot potato.
I’m really struggling to think who could actually handle it in this team without turning into a jellyfish. Martinez?

The trouble is now he has the captaincy then it means Erik won't ever drop him

The sad truth is we've not had a suitable captain at this club since Zlatan, and before that Rooney. Lack of leadership, lack of strong mentalities and lack of character has been one of our biggest downfalls.

Frankly I think we'd be better off getting rid of captaincy until a suitable player is founf, rather than giving it to the likes of Maguire and Bruno

I will tell you now, the captaincy means more to the fans than it does to the players. Leaders are going to lead whether they are wearing the arm band or not. Valencia was our captain and he can't even speak English FFS

Should have been Casemiro for the short term and Martinez maybe for the longer term but the problem is we lack leaders throughout the squad and have done for well over a decade.

Look at our last CL winning squad with VDS, Neville, Rio, Vidic, Evra, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs and Rooney all being captain material then world class players like Ronaldo and Tevez also there.

We’ve become a parody of a club who’s sole purpose is to create a commercially juggernaut financially for the parasites that own us so there’s zero structure on the playing side, every manager that comes in has a different style to the previous therefore see leadership in different places but with us it’s basically whoever is seen as the best player or seniority.

Yeah we are clearly lacking a leader,so what should we do about the captaincy?

We had 4 or 5 months there last season where we had leaders coming out our asses, Casemiro, Martinez, Varane....

That feels like a long time ago, doesn't it?

Doesn’t matter as it won’t change now. No chance in hell is ETH admitting he was wrong and taking the captaincy off Bruno. Just look at the Antony situation, pure crap but guaranteed starter. Personally I wanted Martinez to have it but oh well.

I dont really see why people care about who the captain is... Real Madrid just chuck it to their longest serving player and are done with it. They seem to be doing alright?

Its just an armband that allows you to talk to the referee and tell the ref you dont agree with the decision. Even the most well spoken captain isnt going to change the refs decision though...

The captain's armband really does seem to be cursed, Maguire is happier without the extra pressure whereas Bruno has been a passenger nearly all season

Real however are a club that is extremely successful during the last decade and has poured confidence in all of their players due to this. It doesn't matter who exactly is their captain as they have a bunch of players who have won it all and can lead either by voice or by example. United doesn't have this, except Varane and Casemiro who they bought from Real, but Varane is too often injured to be a reliable leader. Casemiro seems to try but seems lost in that midfield currently.

It's a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy - if you lack leaders, you are not successful, if you are not successful you don't breed leaders that lead you to success. It's much harder to break that circle than to keep on it. But it is possible - Bayern's current run startet with the treble 2013 that was won by a generation of players that was said to be mentally weak and not up to the task of winning the big titles. They did evolve into that, and they kept on winning ever since. That's what United needs, but it simply isn't that easy as to just find someone and call him captain and be done with it. It needs character growth throughout the squad.

It’s difficult to take your captain off. Which is not good when they are playing particularly badly
