Greatness ...... well about 10 games from it actua
no no no .... this is not another bollox link between us and him from some tabliod shit!!!

I just want to say that..... looking at Seri A Parma are very close to the drop line and if they were to go down (which i don't think they will, but i can dream!) Cannavaro would almost certainly have to move to avoid playing seri B football for a season (even his love for the club wouldn't keep him there then!).

So with this 'possibility' of cannavaro moving clubs, i think parma would want to avoid selling in Italy and we should be in with a good cahnce of getting him !

Lets all hope for Parma to go down !!!!!

I wouldn't want him for the price they are demanding for him.

He's too small for the Premier League.

And you think we could anybody of the same quality for less ????

Yes he is a little small but he is also, Hard as feck, fast, and reads the game perfectly!

I would love to see hi in a UNITED shirt!

Possibly.

And for that kind of money I think we could get better or at at least someone who's more suited to the PL.

im with the guys who reckon cana wont suit the premiership too. a few years back when parma went to anfield for a pre season friendly, the donkey heskey torn canavarro apart. hes a great defender in the slow technical serie a, but against fast agressive oposition week in week out, he might not look that great.

I hope we dont sign Cannavaro...
1. He is not that great and not of a spectacular size either...he is far too overrated..
2. The price would be too high as would be his wage demands..though I am sure Utd will be able to satisfy them
3. He would never adapt to England and long to go back to Italy, play like a real donkey and go back for half the price.

Although he is a quality player he is too expensive for his age, and there are others who will be more suited to our game as well as cheaper and younger.

Tudor/Hofland spring to mind as well as this Mexes lad everyone goes on about.

We need a leader as well as a lynhcpin. I think Brown can be our lynchpin, now we need someone who can lead the line. O'Shea?

These two can be a great partnership IMO, they compliment each other well, are both tall, fast and strong-ish. None of them are up there with Stam as yet but given time and nurturing dont you think they can grow to be a great double-act?

I have serious doubts about Brown. He has a very suspect temperament and panics easily when under pressure

O'Shea on the other hand has exuded coolness when he was playing in a team low on confidence but there's a long, long way to go for him yet....

I think you're being a bit harsh on Brown there, it took a lot of mental strength to get back into the team after his year long layoff, and I think he suffered from losing Stam and the partnership he has built with him. It didn't help Barthez cocking up his clearances for him, presumably because Barthez doesn't have faith in him. Although Barthez is one of the world's best shot stopper, he's certainly not a good communicator, which Schmikes obviously was. Brown and O'Shea are both very cool defenders, perhaps a little too casual, though it is very hard to comment at all on O'Shea due to only playing a few first team games. Since they're both very young for defenders, who only really start to get world class at 28, then it is very promising for our backline. And Tate seems to be another promising CB as well.

Where is wes brown still injured and when will he be back.

on canavaro i think hes a class defender perfect for europe and a handful of PL games but i cant see him coming to england if he leaves i think he'll go to spain both real and barca are leaky at the back and dont seem to care about the price

he's over rated.

He IS overrated. Nesta on the otherhand I would love to see in a red shirt.

Gaz - nesta - oshea - Brown

now thats a backline I'd like to see have a chance.

Brown as LB???? why not Silvestre or Phil...Nesta IS BRILIIANT though don't you feel that Nesta would be rather hard to persuade to come to OT unless Lazio do really badly and Utd. get a manager like capello or SGE

yea well if united were to buy him would he still be overated ??
and u cant rate some1 by not watching them week in week out over a substantial period of time

Just because a player plays for United doesn't means he isn't overrated...many utd players are overrated..David Beckham being a prime example...and yes Cannavaro would be just as good or just as bad if he signed for United because I doubt we'd see a sudden jump in his talent all of a sudden.

nope...ther's no denying he is a great player esp after the way he played yesterday....but personally I feel he is way overrated....he is nowhere near being the best midfielder in the world...Giggsy has more pace, better dribbling and his crosses are more accurate

After a bad start to the season I feel Silvestre has yet again improved ever further compared to a decent last season. His future though could be decided when the Champions League resumes. If he costs us goals again, the new manager will not have mercy.

I know very well that Beckham and giggs are different type of players...but the point I am trying to make is that Giggs is a better LW than Beckham is a RW...i.e if I was to rate beckham out of hundred and giggs out of 100, giggs would score more.....in other wordsif beckham is worth 40m or whatever...Giggs is worth a whole lot more.

I agree...he is great on the attack...but has improved substantially defensively..he is not costing us goals nowadays

It's quite hard to label one player as the best midfielder in the world becaus there are players with different style....when it comes to beign defensive, Keane and Vieira are good, but when it comes to attacking, there will be others like figo and zidane

like Nesta...Cannavaro is over-priced and over-rated.

Hofland would cost £10 million less and suit us much better.

With the Italians we would be paying mega money for players who are difficult to settle and who would constantly be linked with moves back to Serie A.

The players who haven't already played in Italy come with less baggage and without the prima dona attitude we can well do without.

It pisses me off we should always be looking to Italy.

We need to be buying them before they go to Serie A...we got the best years out of Stam...we can get the best years out of Hofland too...and then let us be in a position to sell him on to Italy for £30 million on our terms and to our timescale.

I couldn't agree more

but still
u can't say he is overated when he is pure class
imo nesta and cannavaro are the best international central defensive combination ,as shown in euro 2000 ,and look at nesta's age.

Good post. Nesta and Cannavaro are great defenders but £30 million apiece? Get real. We could get Mexes and Hofland for one of them. Both of whom just might grow up to be better than Nesta.

Anyone who says Nesta/Cannavaro are crap just doesnt know football. No one gets to the top by being crap. Not even the Neville brothers who also get tonnes of flack from people who just dont know to speak.

Nesta/Cannavaro would be good in most teams, particularly Nesta who is a good defender no matter what anyone says. He just might be the current world no. 1 in that position. But that said his style suts Italy where defence is key and play is slower and more mechanical.

I wouldn't want him and his luggage over here at Old Trafford.

He is definately a great player, there's no denying that and with Nesta, he may form a great partnership, but to price him over 30m is a sin.

I watched most of the Africa Cup games(Mainly boring 0-0 draws) :( but I was very impressed by the Captain of Senegal who played mostly at left back. He is called Cisse (Don't know if he is related). He is about 6-6" tall very quick and with excellent ball skills. What mainly impressed me though was his coolness under pressure. He has more than a touch of the Bobby Moore about him. My guess is that he plays in France somewhere. Anyone got any idea?

Edouard CissŽ, plays for PSG and no, he's not related.
