Looks like he's going to Villareal - with a buy back clause of course.

He says, "It's incredible to be in Madrid - but I need playing time."

We'll be reading similar stories about 2-4 more Madrid players next summer.

Are Villarreal in the Champions League?

if yes it will be interesting to see him at that level.

Probably a replacement for rossi, if he does leave

Good, he looked a brilliant talent at Racing but for Real he has received very limited playing time making him lose real match fitness.

Every time he has taken to the pitch he's mostly looked out of depth.

I have big hopes for this lad, hopefully he can receive his chance to show everybody his potential.

Another young talent wasted by Madrid

I wouldn't say so.

He's only 20 years old, he's likely to get the experience he needs to fulfill his talent and then Madrid are likely to bring him back.

Consider this somewhat of a loan.

Yeah but at this young age, he has basically wasted his one year. Although a part of me thinks that these young players who sign for Madrid deserve this. Madrid has a history of buying superstars and not creating them, young players should look past their prestige and instead care about their own development.

ozil? di maria?

it really depends on a person by person basis.

some young players are ready and have the ability. not 'perceived' ability, but real ability.

Canales has real ability he's just inexperienced, they knew this already and shouldn't have kept him for the year if they weren't going to give him a chance. No doubt he'll excel at Villareal and he'll come back and have a good career at Madrid but it's been a wasted year for him.

Ozil and Di Maria were already first choice at the WC and had plenty of club games under their belt, they weren't in remotely the same boat as Canales.

He's playing right beside Alonso without a doubt.

Did he really only sign for them last summer? And he's being sold already?

That's absurd. One of the most important aspects of developing young footballers is keeping them happy and motivated enough to stay at the club.

You can't win them all (Rossi/Pique) but Fergie's been brilliant at instilling the need to be patient in wantaway youngsters over the years. Mourinho obviously still has a lot to learn in this regard.

This is what worries me most if he ever gets the chance to manage United. he can fook right off as far as Im concerned.

You really think that Mourinho had any real say in this? Valdano and co were more likely to be behind such a decision. It reminds me of a couple of years back when Pellegrini asked Real to keep Negredo instead of signing Benzema but they ignored him and bought Benzema in anyway.

They've managed to get in Sahin very cheap and he's far more developed than Canales. Canales will be 7th choice, so there's absolutely no point in keeping him. Especially when most of the players ahead of him in the pecking order are quite young themselves.

Was Canales a Mourinho signing though? It may be a case of him getting rid of a player who he didn't want in the first place.

Mourinho says he had a long talk with Canales yesterday and that they'll look for what's best for the player and the club - but that Canales will remain a Madrid player.

A loan deal to Schalke has been suggested - and turned down by Canales, who says he doesn't want to leave Spain.

When you are winning it's easy to blood youngesters. When your only objective is to win, to catch your rivals it is not so easy to bring in untried and untested players. To give them the chance they need.

I can understand Mourinho in this. I hope he goes and gets the playing time he needs, he's a top prospect but players should have more intelligence before signing for Madrid.

Mourinho might not even be the one who bought him so he has a hard time making him happy. Or maybe it was a case of a close rival going for him so they that's why they bought him.

I wish we got him last season. With Scholes's teaching and help, he could have stepped into his shoes in a couple of years.

Signed for Real Sociedad last transfer window. They will probably want to keep him because it's likely that both Vela and Griezzman leave the club.
Hopefully the guy picks up where he left off a few years ago. He's still young. He could grow up much like Vela has these past 3 seasons.

Some portuguese newspapers have been saying that Lopetegui (new Porto manager) wants to bring him to Portugal.
