looking forward to this

i think lacy is gonna win

Christ, boxing doesn't get much better than that eh?

It's always nice too see a surly, arrogant loud mouth yank getting a pasting and a boxing lesson to boot. His corner were a set of cnuts though, he should have been pulled out before the end. Hope there is no lasting damage because of it.

Superb stuff though from Calzaghe. Really showed what he is made of.

Fantastic performance from Calzaghe.Lacy never got a look in from the first round Calzaghe totally dominated the fight.Lacy is young and could well go on to be a superstar but he was not ready to step up to a more experienced fighter.

It'll be interesting to see how he comes back from this beating, I reckon the first thing he needs to do is change his team. He should have been pulled out of that fight after he started asking what round he was in and started stumbling all over the shop in the 9th and 10th. They really seemed to have their eyes on the belts instead of the well being of their fighter.

There were a couple of great quotes given before the fight to look back on:

JAMES TONEY - former super middleweight world champion said:
Joe Calzaghe-Jeff Lacy is a mismatch. Lacy is going to destroy that boy. He's too strong, he's a fighter - he's proved himself.

Calzaghe never did anything. He beat Chris Eubank nine years ago, but what has he done since then? He's a joke, that's why he keeps pulling out of fights.

I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled out of this one. Everybody in the UK is over-protected, but Lacy will be OK, because he's a fighter.

RICHIE WOODHALL - former super middleweight world champion said:
My money's on Joe but I would have preferred this fight to have come five years sooner.

Joe's on home soil and, although it's great when the crowd's behind you, they can spur you on and force you into boxing the wrong style.

If he stands and fights with Lacy, Joe will come unstuck because Lacy's got a lot of power and is the best short-range fighter in the division.

But Joe will show intelligence and keep it mid-to-long range. I think he'll box cleverly on the back foot and win on points.

whoops.

magnificient performance from calzaghe.

one of the best i've ever seen

The other bloke(Lacy) seemed really one dimensional. . . Calzaghe was simply too fast for him.

He was magnificent, though. (Worth staying up.)

Calzaghe was class. That was one of the best permances i've ever seen. He completely destroyed the bloke. I've never seen a fighter win all 12 rounds and only 1 of the rounds was remotely close.

The first fight of the evening was a cracker as well.

Mighty Joe!

It really was quite a performance, and with the 0230 start for the American audience, he'll get the recognition he deserves on that side of the pond.

Totally awesome.

I've heard some excerpts from Boxing news sites voer there, and they a full or praise, even if they more than those in the British Isles, were surprised as just how dominant Calzaghe was.

At times, when Calzaghe was unloading just so many punches, you had to wonder how Lacy kept going, he had a lot of guts and heart if nothing else.

It's good to see somoene like ITV really going big on Boxing again, there's nothing wrong with Sky's coverage, but we probably would've had to have paid £15 to watch the fight is all.

In recent weeks, we've had Williams v Skelton and Khan v Willians too.

Helps to erase the utter anticlimax that was Harrison v Williams though. :)

looking forward to the next danny williams and the next ricky hatton fights. hope itv get them

I'm gutted that I missed the fight. I'm looking for a torrent for it right now.

Well done Joe.

Without wishing to take anything away from Joe - who was absolutely brilliant - Lacy was awful. I can't believe he'd won twenty or so fights prior to that. I kept on thinking it was all some clever rope-a-dope style gameplan and Lacy was going to come out blazing late on - but it never happened. What the feck was his stategy? He didn't seem to have one - apart from maybe trying to scare Joe into submission with his big, muscles. As if. He's was supposed to be the young Mike Tyson, but he reminded me very much of the now Mike Tyson: intimidating physique, but no handspeed and unable to put together any combinations.

That said, Joe can only beat the bloke who turns up and he did that in some style. Some really magical combinations. One of the greatest performances by a British fighter in a title contest I've ever seen. I wonder who he'll fight next. Hope it's another American and not Clinton Woods.

Right, people. Any predictions for the Floyd Mayweather-Zab Judah fight? Gotta be the brilliant Mayweather around round 7 hasn't it?
