So recently my Denon earbuds broke so I am in search of replacements. I decided against buying earbuds again as they were starting to irritate me in terms of comfort level. I did some homework and asked a couple of friends for recommendation and a lot of them recommended this:

Grado SR60i

Apparently, they sound great and especially for their price. But the retro look doesn't seem to be for everyone. It did look like a ham radio to me from the start but it's starting to grow on me.

Thoughts? Recommendations?I have also heard great things about the Denon AH-D1001.

Thoughts? Recommendations?

Yeh I'm not sure I'm a fan of the seemingly-gratuitous "aerials" on those. I do love big headphones, though. I'm not one of this kids that walks around with a massive pair on just so everyone looks at me - I just love the far, far better sound quality and noise-killing abilities of a chunky pair of headphones that clamps to your ears.

In other words, if those are the ones recommended to you, then give them a try. Google will tell you if there's any major problems, and if not, well why ask people if you ignore their advice?

Because they do sound great but I might look a bit
like a tit wearing them

Mate, I have these headphones and they are the dogs bollocks!

Perfect for use through an amp or an iPod, I can't recommend them highly enough. I bought em for £95 nearly 3 years ago and it's been one of the best investments I've ever made. Buy them!

Thanks for replying. I am seriously considering these. But I am a bit afraid that I'll look like a tit wearing these on the streets and to class.

Also, how is the noise isolation? I heard that other people will hear your music too. That certainly is a problem.

Bose, the best you can buy, but their products are expensive

Hmmmm, I'm really not fussed about wearing them out and about, that's down to how comfortable you feel wearing them. There is some noise leakage as the ear pads are quite large and cover far more than just your ear. Occasionally, if I'm on a train or in a small crowded space I might turn it down a little if I'm listening to particularly heavy music.

I absolutely love them myself and the sound quality is excellent, and for me, that is the most important thing to consider when buying audio equipment.

Don't want to burst your bubble but Bose is extremely overrated for the price that you pay. I've owned the Quiet Comfort's before and they were nice but the quality was cheap and there are for better ones for much less.

I would say in terms of sound quality, Grado, Sennheiser, and Denon all get the nod over Bose.

I have Grado SR60s. You could either go with them or the SR80s. They're both fantastic, but I've heard the 80s have a bit more bass output. They're outstanding quality and relatively cheap for good headphones. Mine were $75 5 or 6 years ago.

Absolutely correct mate

I currently have these

and I tend to use them as speakers more than headphones but when I do wear them over my ears they cancel out near enough all outside noise, at the expense of people hearing my music mind.

I also have these

which are really comfortable with good sound quality and were pretty cheap as well.

What other options have you got Bear Attack?

I did quite a lot of research and tried different headphones a few years back before I bought my Grado's so I may be able to help

I tried that headphones, and it has been a fantastic experience

The best I used, compared to Phillips and Sony

If exist something better, will be something of galactic in terms of quality...

Bose are expansive and this is sure

I remember LOVING the SR60s.. a friend of mine had a pair...

AGES since I've tried 'em, tho'.

Bose! If it were upto me, I'd lock up every twat who ever bought Bose. Shit products, super-high price.

To the OP, get Sennheiser HD 595 and close this thread.

Incidently, when I was buying, it actually came down to the Grado SR60s and the Sennhesier HD 595s. Spent about a week pondering over that but in the end the Grado's just nicked it for me.

You won't go wrong with either

Along with Bose, I think anything produced by Monster should be outlawed(especially Dre Beats).

Um, I was thinking about the Denon D1001 but those cost more than the Grado's and are not necessarily better. I was leaning towards the Grados and judging from the comments here, I'm definitely considering them.

I'm mainly going to be using it on my iPod. Occasionally at home, to work, to class, on the train, etc.

I was thinking nothing over 150 Canadian. The Grados are just about perfect in terms of price range. But I am just worried about the look and the sound isolation. But they have definitely grown on me and they look kind of classy.

Those are awful. They are ridiculously priced and you are basically buying the design which don't actually look that tasty. The solo ones look pretty slick but I've tried them and they sound like Apple earphones. Nuff said.
