Just discovered these through a mate of mine, very impressed it has to be said.

They're a kind of energy filled Cold War Kids, Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys kind of mix, and hailing from Kentucky they are another welcome addition to the growing crop of excellent American 'rock' bands coming through right now and over the last couple of years.

Give em a listen, there are some very instantly catchy tunes here that you'll find yourself singing to yourself after only a few listens, I rate them so far, whether they'll have longetivity with me will remain to be seen though.

Cage the Elephant - In One Ear

Cage The Elephant - Ain't No Rest for The Wicked

And a nice little regae mix:

Cage The Elephant - Wicked Devil reggae Remix

Check out the live version of "Ain't no rest for the wicked"

Far better

Never understand why bands take the energy out of their songs when recording.

That's the Jules Holland one isn't it?

I listened to that yesterday, can't half play live, and agreed on the energy thing to, which to be fair is down to the producer in part to get right.

I think this is what is referred to as an epic fail.

Hardly, when is promoting a new and upcoming band ever an epic fail?

If you have nothing to contribute Sloppy, then please move along as I was talking to Noodle.

I downloaded there album about 6 months ago. Listened to it then, wasn't overly impressed.

Yep, that's the one. It's the only decent live version I can find.

You listened to the whole album? It's fecking great. Like a cross between a good version of the Arctic Monkeys, and some random maniac charging about smashing everything up.

Yeah I downloaded it last night and listened to it and again on the way to work this morning, it's very good, I'm liking that kind of yanky sound right now.

You should check out Cold War Kids first album if you like these, similar sound, great debut album (I'm still listening to it now after about a year/year and a half on) and fecking brilliant live. Went to see them at the Manchester Ritz a couple of weeks back, nice small venue and they had the place rocking, best gig of the year for me.

I am digging the older country music lately, mostly because I've come to respect exactly how much drugs and alcohol they did, pure rock and roll that and it comes through in the tunes.

I will check these ones out later tonight as they are from Kentucky and may carry a bit of that mantle.

Check this Doc, Cold War Kids - Saint John, brilliant track, simple and anthemic, a live favorite of mine.

I don't like 'em much.

Still better than most of the boring shite that gets into the mainstream.

Just not my sort of thing, and the lead singer came across as a twat on 'Never Mind The Buzzcocks' when i saw it.

pretty good. im not usually one for bands that sound like that. i always feel that bands like arctic monkeys offer lots of style and very little substance

Saw them live a while back when i hadnt heard of them, they were impressive.

I saw these a few weeks back at XFM Winter Wonderland at Manchester Uni. They were on the same bill as The Music and The View (and unfortunately Scouting for Girls!).

They were absolutely shit. The lead singer with the weird blonde hair looked like he needed to be in a straight jacket and his vocal was shit.

The Music though are possibly the best live band around today!

I think from the videos posted here that I would describe them as being very musically simplistic with far too great an emphasis on the vocal side, which is itself lyrically simplistic.

I think that means you agree with me, Weaste?

These are very poor. I like The Arctic Monkeys a lot (have seen them 5 times in the last couple of years) and what makes them stand out, as someone else has already said, is the excellent lyrics in their songs. CTE were really poor live which is something I have never said about Alex Turner and co.

I just had to listen to some Arctic Monkeys to see if I was somehow missing this great lyrics stuff.

Having done so, either I chose the wrong songs, or I reckon you're talking bollocks. Their lyrics are all a bit bland and meaningless...a bit like their music as a whole.

Decent band if you can get into them, but not exactly a benchmark for others to be measured against, at least I don't think

Bizarre that you rate this lot compared to the Arctic Monkeys' tbh, but that's the nature of taste, I guess. I don't get it, that's for sure. Going on what you've posted, the Arctic Monkeys' music is another level to this. This just sounds like a hundred other bands, without being vaguely original. Also, going on the songs I've heard, the lyrics are pretty bland.

It's just how these things work.

Reckon I'd get a lot more into the Arctic Monkeys if I saw them live. As it stands though, they do nothing for me. In fact their music borders on being in the irritating category, saved only by the fact it doesn't get played that much.

Not sure why I like this lot. I just think the music's got a good rythm and energy about it, and it's simple. Lyrics aren't going to blow anyone away, but they're better than the ones that try too hard to be clever and end up just talking jibberish.
