Apparently Cafu is considering two offers, one from a Japanese club and a two-year contract with us.

Anyone heard anything about it? What do you think? Would that mean Gaz moving to CB and Cafu on the right?

He played at an exceptional level during the WC despite his age. Don't know how SAF would fit him into our plans though. I hope he isn't thinking of playing Gary in the middle, thereby not buying a new CB.

Also, Barca are apparently talking about loaning Riquleme out already.

My thoughts as well, Gaz not my kind of guy for CB. If anything, I would be more concerned about the left side as well.

On Riquelme, makes sense. At the kind of prices/steals available in Argentina I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of promising youngsters are bought now and loaned until they come good. If you have no place for Riquelme but he is quoted at 7m just buy him and work your way around it, it will be well worth it!

Sorry mate. The forum ate it this morning. I'll see if I can retrieve it. No promises though.

Cafu would be a great right back. (Gary in the centr shouldn't mean no new cb)And great cover for Becks imo.
I hope if Barca think of loaning out Juan Roman we should try him out :)

But then we will have Cafu and Gaz, I seriously can't see either warming the bench. My first option for CB would be someone else, anyone bigger basically. But then, the first backup for CB would be Gaz with Cafu on the right. When will Brown and O'Shea get a chance? Dunno, not too convinced about having two RB who don't quite impress me at CB! I'd rather have a good CB who can, if needed, do the job for RB and not the other way round.

He would be cheap though MancfanfromManc, not those ridiculous tens of millions, no defender is worth 30m. Big bucks are for creative genius, that's the scarce/differential resource.

O'shea and Brown would get their chance against the Birminghmas and Sunderalnds of this World. And whenever injuries crop up and rests are needed. Whih will be often. Remembr blanc is 36 and Cafu if he signed would be 32 turning 33 :)

barca have told ricquelme that a condition of their loaning him out is that he'll only be loaned to a club in spain, italy or portugal. . . .and they're only loaning him out at all if they can't get rid of one of rivaldo, geovanni or rochemback. . .

Cafu; Great player, but, I couldn't see him fitting in somehow. Look at the problems the last South American we signed has had.

No bother. Let's just see if Barcelona are stupid enough to ACTUALLY loan him out. Feckin' £7 million quid. <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" />

Cafyu is one of my favouriote palyers but to be honest I think Fergie should do what he did with the Kids and get in somebody alot younger.
The best defenses are built around a partnership and understanding and I think we have been missing that greatly. This chopping and changing was what screwed us up last year, give th guys with the potential the chance and Utd could have agreat defence for years to come, stop gap solutions will never see us win the CL.
