Bye Bye Blanc?

Surely Brown, Ferdinand, Silvestre and O'Shea are all ahead of him in the pecking order now? I'll find it unbelievable if Blanc gets back into the first team ahead of any of them they way they're all playing.

im a big fan of Blanc, he's class...but i wouldnt change a winning formulation. The 4 young lads is possession of the shirts at the moment deserve to keep their places
and that also includes when our 30million superstar is back

Agreed with you guys. This back 4 is the most competitive we've had for a while IMO - always getting a vital tackle in, heading away a cross or throwing a body in the way of a shot. They've earned their places in the back four and should stay there until a loss of form/injury.

veron was picked over forlan tonight, and he did a great job. that proves SAF has a first 11 in his mind. rotation players are apparently not first in the pecking order.

i wouldn't be surprised if O'shea is dropped for Blanc.

he was played on the left tonight clearly because of his lack of experience to play CH against Henry. he was swapped there in the Basle game - and also played there against liverpool.

TBH O'Shea needs much more to be a regular. Blanc will be back playing CH very soon.

We all know that Blanc will leave this summer anyway, don't we? - Till then, he's superb to have as a squad-player, who is ready, whenever he is needed! - You'll never know what future will bring regarding injuries, do you? (hopefully not anymore <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" /> )

I agree,but what about Garry?

Gary Neville's last two league performances have been great. As have Wes' O'Shea's and Silvestre. Rio and Blanc should have to fight for the place, and I expect they will.

Agree with you. I'm sure long-term, Rio will become a fixture. But that back four is playing so well as a unit, I think it would be crazy to make any changes. They've just put two great back-to-back matches together and this was the first time in 50 plus matches that Arsenal hasn't scored. IMO, they've done more than enough to keep their places.

SAF would have to be nuts to bring Blanc back in now. I hope he has to wait.

When Laurent Blanc was brought to Manchester United in the place of Jaap Stam, we were accomplishing two things:

1. Jaap Stam had crossed a certain limit in his biography, and thereby, he had outdone his welcome at the club. It does not matter how good you are - you speak against your manager against principles at the club while you are there, you are out. Internal matters are to be discussed behind closed doors and do not leak out. That's the principle I would follow at MY club. Washing of dirty laundry, so to speak, is not done outside. We therefore had to replace an established defender.

2. Had someone like Wes Brown not had his injury problems, I am sure we would have allowed to slot straight into the side without the need of getting Laurent Blanc. Moreover Ronny Johnsen was also proving to be injury prone. So the back line was in dire need of a replacement to allow: our defenders to recover from injuries and to allow someone like John O'Shea, promising and raw, to mature in the meantime.

As of today, (and I don't want to jinx him) Wes Brown is sounding like he is going to marshall our defense from the centre. John O'Shea is a first team starter and consistent at that too. With Rio and the option of Mikael Silvestre at central defense too, our defense is surely as healthy and strong as it could ever be. So, yes, the purpose for which Laurent Blanc had been brought the club, has been well and truly met. I would still want him to stay at the club to inspire and guide the guys - work as a defensive coordinator so to speak. But, I should think his playing days, if everyone else is fit, have effectively come to an end... I admire him and his style and what he has achieved. A lot of O'Shea's maturing and Wes Brown's coming back firing the way he is is down to him. And maybe also the 'stabilizing' of Mikael too. He has had a soothing effect on our defence. For that we cannot thank him enough. He has laid the foundation for a sound defence at Old Trafford for years to come. Hail Laurent Blanc.

But, yes, I am afraid, his playing days are up...

Well said

:)

I'm as big a Blanc fan as any here (or maybe the biggest?). I don't think he has been a problem at our back line, but the way the defence has played in the last two games, no one should get an automatic entry back into it, whether it's Laurent or Rio or Franz Beckenbauer!

Like Vinay said though, I think bringing Blanc in has certainly brought us forward, rather than backwards. We look healthier in the backline positions than we have in many many years.
