Much better performance today than our previous 2 games. Veron was absolutely superb, his passing was excellent and he got stuck in. Keane had a decent game, as did Beckham. The first goal came after Veron released Silvestre down the left wing and he clipped a cross to the back post where Beckham headed the ball back for Forlan to hammer the ball home on the half volley from about 10 yards. It was amazing that we only ended the first half with one goal, we missed a lot of chances. We stared the second half in similar fashion, again missing quite a few chances, but it needed Bartez to pull off two cracking saves from point blank headers to keep us level. The second goal was a result of a brilliant pass from Veron who found Beckham running clean through on goal. He chipped the goalie from about 20 yards out and at one stage it looked he was going to save it but it sailed over his head. Right at the end Ferdinand missed an open goal from Beckham’s free kick, it seemed even worse than John O’Shays miss in the derby. Best player for us today was by a mile was Veron, followed by Wes Brown, O’Shay, Beckham & Keane. Scholes had one of those games where nothing came of for him. Mind you he is totally wasted on the left wing.
