Manchester United youngster Evandro Brandao is leaving for Sporting Braga.

The 18-year-old Angola-born forward is heading to Portugal after deciding to take his career in a new direction.

Brandao has confirmed his move to Agencia Lusa and revealed that he will sign a contract this week after training with the Braga junior side.

The Portugal Under-17 international joined Sir Alex Ferguson's champions from Walsall in 2007 on the recommendation of current international coach Carlos Queiroz.

The move is expected to be on a permanent basis rather than a loan deal but the full details have yet to be released.

Makes sense.. Didn't look like he was good enough to make the grade here... I am sure many would agree with that..

Yeah, seemed like a below-par squad player. Best of luck to him at Braga.

You just had to look at the difference up front for the Academy when Josh King (who looks a real talent if he can stay clear of injuries) came back into it. Brandao had some moments, but was largely peripheral in most games he played.

He looked like a brilliant prospect when he first arrived but his progression hasn't been all that. Best of luck to him.

thought he'd a chance a couple of years ago, he was the lad that came from hearts?

Galbraith was one of the most talented players we had when he was about 16 - but he has lost almost 1.5 of the last 2 years with injuries and never really had a chance after that

Strickland, Curran, Bryan, Derbyshire and Galbraith I think.

Thanks.

and do you know what happened to Choccy's son? Is he still an academy student (same as Oliver Gill) or has he left the club?

Correct me if I am wrong but didn't Galbraith do quite well at the end of this season?

He played sporadically as an over-age player for the U18s (and one reserve game iirc), did ok but was obviously going to be difficult for him after being out for so long.

Was having trials with Hibs and Hearts last I heard.

Set to join Benfica apparently

Benfica have agreed a two-and-a-half year contract with Portuguese under-18 international Evandro Brandao, who will move to the Estadio da Luz having left English champions Manchester United during the summer.

The 18-year-old ended a two-year spell at Old Trafford in June, and was thought to be close to signing a deal with Sporting Braga. However, the Eagles have now won the race for Brandao’s signature, and the striker will join the ranks of Jorge Jesus’ side at youth level.

“The verbal agreement was reached last week and yesterday I signed a contract for two-and-a-half years,” Brandao told Maisfutebol. “I will go to the academy team. The most important thing is that I recover the lost time and return to action. That’s what I want most right now. I will work to get up to the senior team. I hope to get that chance.”

Born to a Portuguese father and an Angolan mother, Brandao lived in Portugal for four years before moving to England, aged 11, where he spent time at the academy of modest club Walsall, before earning a dream move to United in 2007.

Wow, there was a bit of high-hope for the lad too when he arrived... Any idea what happened to him? Just not as good as advert?

Every kid that joins us is labelled as the next wonderkid. He looked a decent player but there are more talented strikers in the ranks needing game time so he was released. That Benfica are willing to take him on shows that you shouldn't be writing him off just yet.
