Boycott Alan Green

The scouse Ulsterman is at it again!! Is anyone else tired of listening to his ABU sentiments that mark his commentary. His latest comment that "although we were handed the victory at Anfield - we were in good form" is typical.

It's days like today that we can ram down the throats of all ABU's - Man Utd will never die!!

PS. Thanks to Gary and Phil Neville for showing balls particularly in the last 2 weeks.

He's a twat, yes but you're overreacting.

Every time you get pissed off at something Alan green says, just remember that he has to live with that face for the rest of his life and any anger instantly turns to pity. As the saying goes, he's got the perfect face for radio. ;)

<img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> I will always think of this post now when I hear AG.

I can`t hear Alan Green where I am (thank heavens) but I have read plenty of what he has to say. However, I would not bother getting tied up in knots over Green`s opinions.

Sure, he is unfair to MU at times but I have also read some scathing comments he has made about a number of clubs, big and small (including that massive club Manchester City. I don`t think he is an ABU - I think he is a certain type of commentator whom most clubs will dislike at one time or another because he sees his role as the pourer of cold water.

I had to laugh when I read some of the comments he made about Manchester City and Joe Royle a couple of seasons ago - the comments were spot on. I disagree with his comments about MU being handed victory at Liverpool because I will always disagree with the notion that a goalkeeper under intense pressure from an opposition player trying to get a goal, has handed the goal to the other team if he makes a bad mistake.

However, I don`t let Alan Green worry me as there are countless examples of how he has said caustic things about any number of clubs.

It's true, he doesn't pick on United specifically. The problem with Alan Green is he moans and whinges in his commmentaries too much and too self-indulgently.

He reacts indignantly all the time to on-pitch events, if minor fouls are committed, if the game happens to be a dull one, if teams are playing defensively, and often his opinions get in the way.

He assumes his audience cares about what he thinks about how the game is being played, when we don't - all we want is an enthusiastic, accurate description of what's going on. I much prefer the other Five Live commentators, my heart sinks when Green is handed the mike.

Well I like Alan Green because, of all the commentators, he has the guts to say what he thinks and f*** anyone else if they don't like it. After years of listening to Motson, Davies, Parry and people like that, Green is interesting and provokes a reaction whether you agree with him or not. I know he has big problems with The Wizard but I would rather listen to Green than someone like Jonathon Pearce any day - excitable doesn't automatically mean interesting or provocative, someone out to tell Pearce that.

&gt; He has the guts to say what he thinks and f*** anyone else if they don't like it.

Just what you want in someone whose job it is to entertain and inform an audience.

I think Alan Green is a breath of fresh Air. People have their problems with his anti-MU stuff, but I think he is the only commentator who makes you feel as if you are at that very match and put you in the middlw of the action.

Exactly what I was going to say. He talks like he cares. And surely what he has said about United recently is exactly what people have been saying in this forum!

But surely we have enough 'company' men on radio and TV? Green entertains me even if I do call him a c*** sometimes because he sounds like he cares about what is happening on the pitch; he sounds like it 'matters'. Alan Parry had a real go at Green a year or so ago because Green made some statement on the state of football at the present time and Alan Parry was saying, in effect, that if you love football then you shouldn't critisize it and that Alan Green obviously doesen't love football. Tell me, which of those two do you think has anything, anything interesting to say? Which of those two is more entertaining and informative? Which would you rather listen to if you weren't a Red?

Exactly. All this 'breath of fresh air' and 'cares about the game' is bullshit. What he cares about is his image as radio maverick but all he does in practice is feckin' winge and pursue his imaginary feud with Fergie. Contrast that with Armfield - who I could listen to for hours adn is very effective and conveying the atmosphere and the state of the play.

BBC should get shut of the twat Green and let him pursue a career on the Shopping Channel or suchlike.

It's amazing that some people on this board feel it is their divine right to say whatever they think and sod the rest yet have a go at Alan Green for doing the same. I don't give a shit if he and Fergie hate each other or if he is a dippers fan, I enjoy listening to him even if I agree with him only when there's an 'x' in the month. He calls it as he sees it and I respect that.

Make a habit of befriending granny stabbers then??

It's a fair point to say Green calls it as he see's it, but from a national radio station I want unbiased commentary and not this sanctamonious prick loving the sound of his own voice. He's feckin 'orrible.

i think most commentators are arse, and love the smell of their own shit in an image/voice-conscious post-90s way that never existed, well, in the 70s or 80s (duhhhh).. but there's def. an ego/marketability thing going on with most commentators lately and they tow the line like fecking tory back-benchers. god be with the days when commentators weren't afraid to say, "god, this game is a steaming pile of shit."

As I've said before he's choked on his own saliva twice last week! Towards the end of the first half on saturday he said " Phil Neville is lucky to still be on the field". In the second half he mellowed a little and had to agree with Armfield that Phil was 'probably' the man of the match.

When i've heard him on liverpool they are always 'unfortunate' or 'not playing to their potential' Whatever his reasons his position is pretty obvious however much he tries to deny it (which he has to often on air)

Not at all. This board exisits for us to whinge, moan and applaud our team. Radio 5 is there to describe the game to us so those of us who aren't there can visualise it in our heads.

Alan Green is not Alan Green Private Citizen when he's on the radio, he's Alan Green Professional Broadcaster Paid For Out of My Licence Fee.

If he wants to spout off about the way the game is played, by all means get him in here and let's hear it. No problem with that. Just not when I'm trying to concentrate on the game - he's like that asshole in the pub who won't shut up when you're trying to watch the game.

hey leave me alone

I don't normally go along with the notion that a commnetator is biased. But Green's love for Liverpool shines thought. I coulnd't tell you who most other commentators support, but Green constantly manages to mention the scouse.

I remember last year when he was commentating a United game, and Veron made a great pass. His co-commentator said there are not many who could do that, and Green pipes up, yeah but there's one, Gerrard. He then managed to mention scouse three times, and we weren't playing them.

Can't bear to listen to him.

totally agree with most of the posts.
alan green is a twat who LOVES the sound of his own voice.
what i can't stand is that he really seems to think that he's a superstar, and most of 5 LIVE treat him as such.
i want commentators who tell me about the match, not dish out opinionated drivel. as someone said - we're paying for this, - and we've got a right to listen to fair and unbiased reporting, which green is unable to give.
can't they send him away to report on cross-country skiing or americas cup yatching or something. radio would be a better place without him.
