ITV's "Big Fight Live"?????

3 fights on the bill and not one of them any good, all 3 were missmatches of the highest order, it was a fecking joke.

Not one of the "challengers" was fit to enter the ring with the other.

Thanks to Frank Warren and Don King this sport is officially dead.

I for one am gutted.

sadly it does seem that money talks more and more and its becoming les and les a sport...

Manfredo was the number 6 challanger and was not ready... he will probably never be ready... but sadly the money and networks got him the fight

I look at the heavyweight division now and I don't know anyone there anymore.

Who's the best? I don't know and haven't known since Lewis called it a day. I used to know everyone in that division as it was the showpiece event in boxing.

Nowadays it's fecked, there are no decent boxers or matchups even, and the showpiece events we had years ago are a long distant memory.

Cage fighting is much better anyway. Boxing is pointless with MMA around.

No shit...... I say this with absolute conviction - give it 10-15 years and MMA will have put boxing in the grave and give it 20 years and it will be a global sport a la football...

Around the middleweigths boxing is at a very strong time. Just because one fight night has a poor card doesnt reflect on boxing as a whole. Heavyweights on the other hand though are a joke.

No. Idiot.

Exactly

Except for Klitschko, there´s not much to cheer about there.

There wern't really many good heavyweights around Lewis' time either.

Temper, temper..

So..... in the 14 years since Cage Fighting/MMA was born it has gone from being almost a total unknown to the fastest growing sport in the world.

Currently the total PPVs sold by the UFC/Pride have a greater net value than any other sport in the world.

UFC 70 - MEN Arena in Manchester

UFC 72 - Dublin, Ireland

The above indicate a massively growing fanbase in Europe.

Put simply the reason why the MMA fighter will eventually consign his boxing counterpart to the runners up spot and quite possibly to the scrap heap is because in combat sports he is the superior fighter...... and at the end of the day thats what the public wants to know and see - WHO IS THE BEST FIGHTER IN THE WORLD.

Surely you mean best fighter in the playground.

Contrary to your ignorance, MMA is in fact superior to boxing in all aspects - the technical abilities to be a world champion in MMA outweigh those in boxing.

The modern MMA athlete must have a good understanding of BJJ, Muay Thai, Boxing and Wrestling in order to truly succeed.

As has been proved in the early days of MMA when a boxer comes up against an MMA fighter - the boxer ends up hurt..... badly and quickly.

A boxer against a present day MMA fighter - the boxer ends up hurt...... very badly and very quickly.

Boxing was at it's peak in the 70's and 80's internationally, 2 main belts plus a lesser regarded one in the IBF. The sport spiralled downhill when the WBO etc came to be. Nowadays fights between the likes of Hagler, Hearns, Leonard and Duran would never happen as politics would keep them apart.

Exciting fights are a rareity rather than the norm these days which is a shame

Which doesn't change the fact that MMA is crap sport. H.L Mencken said something to the effect that no one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public. Apparently his observation has universal application.

Explain what you mean by crap sport? It's an incredibly skilled and entertaining sport, it's probably the most difficult sport in the world too, you only have to look at the top guys who have amazing conditioning and technique. It's popularity has risen over time too, It's pretty much gone from a tiny niche Japanese sport to a global franchise.

Watch a Fedor fight.

So according to your idiotic logic, football is a crap sport because it isnt "to the taste of the American public"........ do me a favour and actually do some homework because you clearly dont have a clue...

I watched a bit. I don't like it. The joy of sport is that we get to disagree as to what and who we like.

Reread the post and you'll find that, in your "wisdom" you got it backward. It was things "to the taste of the American public" that Mencken found to be objectionable. Admittedly, he was a bit of an intellectual snob, for a writer based in Baltimore.

Do us both a favor and don't put words in other people's mouths until you comprehend what they've actually said. Your comments on 1) idiotic logic, 2) my opinions of football, and 3) who needs to do the homework were somewhat off base.
