Boring weekend of football

Brighton battered Everton away. That's definitely a surprising result.

Derby beat Boro on their Championship return, while Bristol and Millwall finished 4-3. Maybe we're all just watching the wrong league?

Upsets or not, its great to have club football back.
The quality and the pace of the matches I watched looked like an entirely different sport to the Euros.

Was saying the same to my brother earlier. Dead results

I watched two matches, including ours, and in both I could see that none of the teams were really ready. Looked sloppy. Players are likely absolutely knackered and that will decrease the quality on display.

Liverpool and Arsenal being generally good and consistent really takes a lot of the joy out of following the premier league
Really took for granted all those of years them two being crap :(

I've enjoyed what I've seen.

United won and were decent. Could possibly have gone either way at one point in the second half after we lost our way a little bit but got there in the end with a late winner for a deserved win overall.

Don't exactly love watching Liverpool win, and I know Ipswich are going to struggle but the scousers played some good stuff second half.

Didn't watch the 3 o'clocks.

Pretty good match between West Ham and Villa just now.

United played some decent football and it's always exciting to see a debut winner. Also, more debuts like Mazraoui and De Ligt. Starting with a win is also good.

I was thoroughly entertained during our win against Fulham (both good and bad) and the Villa win over West Ham was alright as background entertainment.

Managed first halves of United and Arsenal's games. Had Villa and Westham on and was on my phone for most of the first half. It just feels so hollow. No excitement, no flair players. (Kudus was great). Just dull high press and playing out from the back.

Definitely agree with this, overly tactical games now damages the entertainment. Oh for some direct football, bit of chaos and flair players.

There's a gap in the market for fast entertainment that a pro 5-a-side league could fulfil.
Kind of like the king's league.
Maybe not even an existing format, but something like what 20/20 did for cricket.

Just glad it's back me.

Also worth noting there been some pretty good games in the championship, so perhaps in the bigger leagues/top flight match sharpness is just a little lacking.

Completely agreed. Besides Chelsea-City there are no really exciting fixtures across the bigger leagues in Europe this weekend.

Greenwood getting a brace in his debut is probably the only "interesting" thing aside from our three point.

The fact that we played on Friday makes the football weekend even more dull.

I find the EPL dull in general. We all know what will happen. Teams will miss chances against Arsenal and lose, Liverpool will get some fortune at 0-0 and Salah will win the game. City will pass around the ball, maybe concede for the lols and then win 3-1 with a display of ruthlessness.

Watched Milan vs Torino and it was fairly entertaining especially towards the end.

Now we really have 8 teams going for the top 4 spots, every weekend you expect to watch at least some of your rivals drop points to give you a boost.

Very irritating to see Liverpool, Newcastle, Villa and Arsenal win in the same day.

Most boring opening weekend of PL I can remember. Unless Spurs end up beating Leicester 5-3 tomorrow.

Maybe when you get older and older, football becomes less exciting? Or football in general is more boring because football is more tactical focus and less indivual player quality focus.

During the Euros many were whining about the lack of quality and how boring it was. Now the Premier League has started and it is still boring.

I'm debating about the getting older/less exciting issue. Possibly a bit of both

Football is also cyclical. This is just a bit of a dull era. Liverpool were unfortunately playing very exciting football 3/4 years back, the title fights with City were pretty good to a neutral (not me).

Every team expected to be top half won and United again made scoring look very difficult, like our players have double vision, except Zirkzee as he's new.

I genuinely believe football is only interesting when Man Utd are actually good and relevant.

I was at the Derby game. They got hammered for 90 minutes and fluked a goal due to a silly error. They will be on their way back to league 1 playing like that every week.

Definitely the case for me.

Back in the day I’d give a stacked premier league afternoon my full attention - it would essentially be my day. Not to mention the teams that interested me from other leagues.

Now it’s more and more becoming all about United for me with keeping an eye on other games (I’ll keep them on while I do something else or check the score or watch highlights later). Liverpool and City I don’t watching all that much of unless they’re down a goal. Chelsea meh. Arsenal’s predictability in winning these days is also a turnoff.

Essentially for me personally the magic and lure of sitting down and watching 90 minutes of football has significantly waned since when I was a kid. I’d probably rather do my music or game or have to do house work instead of watching 115fc shockingly beat another hapless opponent.

The World Cup is one exception. Having become a bigger football fan who has issues with all our rivals, this competition is like a safe space without rivalries or agendas and hence I always gear up for it even if my mode of consuming footy is not as dedicated anymore (barring United)

Don't think it was that boring. Perhaps results mostly went the way they were expected to but I thought pretty much every game I watched had decent football and exciting moments.
