Manchester City have begun their summer search to bolster their squad in expectation of Champions League football next season with an offer for Bologna's highly rated midfielder Gaston Ramirez.

The Uruguayan international has impressed in the short time that he has been with the Italian club and City are keen to add to their squad, which has at times this season lacked guile and flair.

Many clubs are said to be interested in the 20-year-old but City have been the first to make a concrete offer for the player, who looks to be on his way out this summer.

The Serie A side have rejected an offer from City with the player’s agent Vincenzo D'Ippolito, claiming the club is holding out for a figure in the region of £17.5 million.

He told Sky Sport Italia: “It's a concrete offer from Manchester City for him.

"I don't know what amount but Bologna, for now, said no. These are the first signs, we'll see what happens.

"Bologna want at least €20 million [£17.5m] for him."

It seems the club is willing to negotiate on the player and City will now have to come with a better offer if they want to capture his signature.
