Been re-watching Get Carter recently as I am teaching it with my film group throughout January, and have always rated the ending as one of the bleakest out there (the whole film is pretty bleak to be honest - and I'm referring to the original, and not the Sly remake).

Any other nominations? After all the festive bonhommie I could do with wallowing in some depression and self-pity!:D

The final scene of Candy with Heath Ledger, that was very sad but courageous!

Incase no-one's seen it, its a fantastic Australian film about Love, Art and Heroin in no particular order. Its very hard hitting and it'll have you thinking about the characters long after the film ends.

I only watched on the telly around Xmas and once again sat up til the early hours on a school nite - well worth it though.

Always hated "The Professional" ending, Leon was such a likable character.

The ending to No country for old men is pretty bleak. The ending to 400 blows always had me a bit down, when he turns back towards the camera on the beach there is a look of "what now" but that may just be my reading. Infernal Affairs wasn't particularly happy either.

Obviously you have biographical films that end on a pretty depressing note like The Doors.

Spartacus
The Wild Bunch
One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest
The Hill

The long good friday :nervous::(

Agree with that one...one of the finest peices of acting I have ever seen from Hoskins in those last few minutes, from where he fronts out the mafia to getting taken away in the car by the IRA...no dialogue, just facial expressions...simply brilliant.

I think I probably watched it the same night as you. A friend of mine at Uni is a proper film addict, and wanted to watch it, so we did. It seemed like it was only afternoon for us, though, despite it being on at like 2am.

It was just plain awful

I thought the first half was ok, but the second half was fecking terrible.

Are Hollywood ever going to realise that too much CGI = CRAP.

Great film eh?!

Very dark but so is the world aswell as lightness of course!

My mate thinks some of the flicks i rent are too dark and fecked up, some of them maybe but its the out-of-the-ordinary that I'm interested in and not the-run-of-the-mill-same-old-same-old boring scenario.
