. . . and maintain a position on the bench. He must be used sparingly and only as the need arises. His experience in Europe is not being overlooked but Ferdinand, Brown & Sylvestre are clearly our future and should be getting the bulk of the playing time IMO!
When it's time to defend or guard a lead then Larry's experience is undeniable. If there's panic accross the back then bring him in to "steady" the troops.
I think he should perhaps start the odd game but rarely play more than 60 minutes. In some games, he can help establish stability then step aside to allow what I believe is potentially the strongest back four in the country (if not the world)to take over.
Rotating Rio, Wes & Mikkey in the middle and playing John at LB while Gazza holds down the RB spot is the best back line we've seen in years!
Even a back four that lines up with O'Shea at RB & Mikkey at Left is awsome (assuming they flank Rio & Wes) By the same token, Wes is great cover for Gary . . . Mikkey can slide over to LB in a heart beat. O'Shea can play just about anywhere . . . including midfield in a pinch!
We still have Phil for occasional use in a full back spot or as a man-to-man marker & ball winner in midfield. Phizza's becoming a modern-day "Nobby" Stiles with teeth. but like Blanc should be used with purpose & only on special occasions.
Whenever those "things" happen (like injury or suspension) Blanc can step up & hold down the fort . . .
With that back four let Giggs, Beckham, Scholes, Veron, Keane, Butt & even Forlan fight over the midfield spots . . . Ole & Ruud are our strike force . . . the only place we don't have cover. Yes Giggs, Scholes & Forlan can play up front but lets face it . . . they are not out-&-out strikers. This will be solved in January!?
Never fear . . . we can still win everything this year including the EPL. The future looks bright despite the recent setbacks.
