Blame the ball

Due South

This years WC has been shocking in terms of lack of quality long range shots and goals......I think its the new ball...even though Beckham says its 25 % more accurate.

So will this new lighter ball be used in the new premiership season?.... <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Most Premiership teams play with Mitre balls.

Did anyone ask the goaltenders what they thought of the new ball?
By the way, does it fly "straighter," which might give the goalie a better read on long balls?

Blaming the ball is pointless. The ball used in France was lighter than the one they used in 94 as well.

If anything they should have improved shooting. Might have made dribbling harder tho?

I love playing with these light WC balls, they're incredible. Once you play with one you dont wanna go back to normal. I not tried the new one but I've tried a WC 98 one and I loved it to bits.

mate has one, it's a lovely ball to play with. great touch, weird static-like film around the outside.

No. I've chased one around, but I never got near the fecking thing.

My colleague plays in the 5th division and he loves the ball to bits.

The fifth division? How come he's used the World Cup ball, then?

You're all missing the point about the lack of criticism of the ball - people like Beckham and Del Piero are addidas people and *have* to say it's better. Even *teams* have to say it's better, cos they're adidas teams. Even teams that aren't adidas teams (but might want to be in the future) don't criticise the ball. Shay Given said it's like a beach ball and you can't catch it when wet (Kahn couldn't say that after the final - adidas man!).
F'n branding is comprising the sport

A mate of his bought the ball and they used it for a kick about with a couple of his mates.

The ball´s too expensive for his club and he says the Fevernova is ten times better than the one they use in training.

Which means all the Nike, Reebok, or Umbro whores (er--players and teams) should be lambasting it at every opportunity.

If Fresno says 'Goaltender' one more time...

In fact i think his member status needs adjusting accordingly.

Buffon has criticized it. I think strikers like it much more than keepers.

It's just a ball. At the end of the day these are international class players. Just because the new adidas one is lighter doesn't mean they should all suddenly turn crap!

If you want to call 'em "goalkeepers" fine. It isn't the Yank in me, it's an Alaskan ice hockey thing. We had our own vocabulary up there.

Aren't Alaskans Yanks as well, from the English definition?

As if we care how the English define things? Isn't that country really Baja Scotland?

I think, the rounder and so called better balls are only considered easier to score goals with as the goalkeeper struggles to hold on.
