BLAKROC - The Black Keys Do Hip Hop

signup-logo.jpg

Welcome to BLAKROC

New project with collaborations between The Black Keys (who are quality) and various guest vocalists (rza, mos def, raekwon, q-tip etc) - just had a quick listen to some tracks on youtube, sounds good on first impression but I need to listen a bit more before making judgement

Anyone heard the full album yet? Think it was released last week.

Brilliant album and interesting to be able to see the creative process happen.
The black Keys have a stupid amount of talent and creativity, and to watch them with the Rza bouncing ideas of each other is fantastic.

I've been watching some of the footage of the making of the album - good stuff:
The Making Of ... BLAKROC

I now have the album - check the spoiler if you want it.

I always find it amusing when someone creates a thread on how good an album is, and then promptly links to an illegal download of said album. Way to support the artist, dumbo.

These rock/rap collaborations are usually interesting. Anyone remember this album?

Fairly average movie but a great sound-track.

I'm liking the track roodboy posted above. Will check out the album.

I love that soundtrack - almost every track is class!
I've always seen it as the first of an unofficial trilogy of collaboration soundtracks: Spawn (rock/electronic combos) and Blade II (rap/electronic)

I always find it amusing when someone starts spouting a load of bollocks. feck off, dumbo.

In what way is it bollocks?

In many ways.

I made a thread about a new musical project to hear the opinions of those who had already listened to the album as I hadnt heard it yet.
I then came across a useful link which I thought others might appreciate so I posted it up (as I appreciate it when people post links to videos, music etc that they recommend) - I dont think it is a big deal as Im sure anyone who really wanted it could have found it quite easily themselves.

How many people who would have otherwise purchased the album will now not bother because I posted that link? I would guess that it would be relatively few - not that I actually give a shit about how much money any record label or artist actually makes anyway - plus in any case I think number will be outweighed by the amount of people who would never have heard the album in the first place and will now listen to it.

Hardly means it's bollocks, though - I'm dead right. You just don't care that the artist isn't making any money this way.

I do find it amusing though that you create a thread telling everyone how great this new artist is you've found (as you say, raising awareness of an album/group people would otherwise probably not know about), and then promptly link to a download meaning the artist isn't going to see a penny. I just find that hilarious: "look how great these guys are, I mean they're seriously brilliant - let's rip them off!"

And your argument that the few albums they might have sold but now won't is outweighed by the greater number of people now listening to them doesn't ring true, either; they'd still make more money if three people bought their album than if three hundred downloaded it illegally.

You make it sound so harmless and helpful, as if you've posted a link to an instructional video of some sort, not an illegal download of the very artist you're seemingly trying to promote

Giving the artist excellent free exposure, in the process maybe drawing more fans who may then tell their mates who may then buy tickets to see a show making them FAR more money than any they might see of any album sale.

Therefore, kudos to Rood on this one.

Well, you're an avid torrenter aren't you? This is just going to turn into a filesharing vs not-filesharing debate, the battle lines of which are well and truly drawn. MikeUpNorth and Wibble will come wading in in a minute, lightsabers clashing against each other.

I actually think the artist will benefit more through increased exposure but you are right, I dont really give a shit how much money they make.

I actually havent given much of an opinion about the album as yet as Ive not even listened to it much!

Probably not - if you look at the big picture you will realise that giving a band 100 times more exposure will be more beneficial than selling 3 albums.

Have you ever heard of BlackRoc before? Are you going to have a listen?

Im trying to educate people to potentially good music as too many people look at the charts and declare that music is dead nowadays.

I believe my mission is more important than your moral crusade

I bought the album today, so just to spite Duck, I only bought it because roodboy posted that link.

I've just downloaded the album and burned several dozen copies to distribute as extras with the ebay tickets to their next gig

And as I type this post, I'm receiving a blowjob from the lead vocalist's wife

Torrents are for queers.

But, yeah, you're probably right, I can't be arsed with the debate either, although I can understand my point above being hard to argue against Ducky Boos ;)

Didn't think I was going to like this (I love the Black Keys) but it's actually pretty good. Not usually a fan of styles being mashed together as it's often arbitrary and loses what makes each artist good in their own right. However, this isn't bad. Although clearly the Black Keys are infinitely more talented than their co-collaborators.

I think you are probably massively underestimating the musical genius that is the RZA

So I down-loaded three tracks from the album via iTunes. I paid 79p for each track and am listening to one now.

This is despite the link posted above. It probably means I'm a bit of a spastic but hey, that's the way I roll. Presumably people like me will continue to fund the music industry for a while longer but I guess we're a dying breed.

All of which means that this thread did generate some income for the artists mentioned above. Although I did read a really good review in a newspaper a day after reading the thread, so might have checked them out anyway. feck knows really.

On the contrary Pogue - I believe that people paying to download music is only just getting started - took the record companies a while to cotton on that this is the way forward but now they are finally embracing the future.

Anyway glad to see that Count Duckula has been well and truly proven wrong!

So I have been listening to this solidly for a week now - thought it was a bit hit and miss at first but it has slowly grown on me as a whole package - could actually be one of my albums of the year at this rate, although Im probably forgetting a whole load of other stuff from earlier in the year..

The Black Keys are over in June/July. Tickets on sale Friday.
