You Man Utd You?

It's interesting after 3 days of our Question of the Week 'Which team are you most likely to screw your nose up at?' nearly 20% of the 200 or so who've responded have chosen Man Utd ahead of some of our dearest local neighbours - as Macca shows interest in Ben Thornley, why have MUFC upset so many?
I have more reason than most to have a dislike of the Red Robbing Devils. If I was to stand on the roof of my house (something I've surprisingly always resisted doing) I'd be able to see Old Trafford in the distance. I've been sat in more traffic which Man Utd create than on any other route I use and even though I live a couple of miles from the ground I still find United fans nicking my parking spot before making the long trek to the 'Theatre of Dreams'. So that's my gripe with them, but why are so many Seasiders fans A.B.M.U. (anyone but Man United)?
Well, there's no doubt we have a dislike for success in this country and let's face it Man United have been the success story of English football for many years. However if Blackpool fans bore a grudge against every team who'd been successful, then we'd be very bitter people! Maybe why Man United have such a bad name is their cancerous effect on 'football fans' across the country. The sight of red shirts on the Fylde coast is sadly too prevalent (and these msiguided fools even have the audacity to wear shirts with 'Giggs' and co on the back inside Bloomfield Road). Businessmen know it's important for the sake of small talk to show an interest in football and so adopt Man United as 'their club' - let's face it most people know at least 3 United players and can form some kind of opinion on the Red Devils and David Beckham's current haircut.
Of course the other unpleasant characteristic that Manchester United have become renowned for is their arrogance. Being above playing in the FA Cup was just one example of this, but some feel that the arrogance displayed by the club rubs off on their players.
Which is the point where we come to Man United players who now ply their trade at Bloomfield Road. 'Arrogance' is a word that some Blackpool fans have accused both our former Old Trafford players of having. Now, it looks like they could be joined by a third ex-Man Utd man. Aberdeen midfielder Ben Thornley has been linked with the Seasiders with McMahon confirming the rumour recently. He said "I've made a number of enquiries about a number of players. Ben was one of them, but nothing can happen until January, if anything is going to happen".
One final reason that many dislike the team currently without any trophies (snigger) is the fact that any player who has Man Utd baggage never seems to lose that tag. How many times was Richie Wellens referred to as a former Man United player during Sky's coverage on Monday? Without any disrespect to Richie he came on once as a sub during a Football League cup match! With Thornley having played in 9 Premiership games during his time at Old Trafford, you can guarantee if he joins us the fact he once play for Sir Alex's side will probably get far more coverage than the fact he's joining the Seasiders who are challenging for promotion, play exciting football with a succesful manager and two superb new stands. Thinking about it - no wonder you dislike MUFC!
