Blackburn boss Steve Kean confirms interest in Ruud van Nistelrooy - ESPN Soccernet

Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean has revealed to ESPNsoccernet that he is eager to sign Hamburg forward Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Blackburn had attempted to sign Van Nistelrooy, 34, from Real Madrid in 2009 but then-manager Sam Allardyce was forced to admit defeat as the club could not match his wage demands.

However, Blackburn owners Venky's have been eager to make a marquee signing and, with Van Nistelrooy out of contract at the end of the season, he would represent an attractive option.

Kean, who was at Emirates Stadium to watch Scotland take on Brazil in Sunday's friendly, told ESPNsoccernet: "Yes, I can confirm we are interested."

Michel Salgado, who spent ten years with Madrid before joining Blackburn in 2009, has a good relationship with Van Nistelrooy and it is hoped that he will help lure the striker to Ewood Park.

Van Nistelrooy - who was denied the chance to return to the Bernabeu in January when Hamburg blocked the move - has said he would welcome the chance to return to England.

"I am thinking about a nice club in England after this season, or a club in Spain, but I don't think Real Madrid will come again after their efforts to bring me back in the January transfer window," Van Nistelrooy said in the Sunday Mirror.

"I have decided that if a really big European club does approach me, I will accept a role as reserve striker. I would have accepted that too if the deal with Real Madrid had come off in January.

"They knew I was ready to step in when needed."

I hope he does not go to Blackburn. RvN is one of the greatest strikers of his generation and I think it would be sad to see him play for ever decreasing quality of clubs in his twilight years.

Hang yer boots up Ruud. You will always be remembered and revered by all in the PL as a goal machine. Don't spoil that for one last pay day at a shitty club like Blackburn. Wish we'd signed him instead of Owen. I would have loved that.

I hope he doesn't play for anyone else in the Prem. Maybe another year or two at Hamburg and then retire.

It would be really interesting to see how successful he would be back in the PL. I hope it happens, so long as he doesn't score against us of course.

I very much doubt that this will happen.

I know it could be media bollocks but I'm pretty certain that I read somewhere about how pissed he was about not being allowed to go back to Real in January and that consequently he would not renew his contract with them because of it.

I wouldn't like to see him play in England again, although the though of seeing him live again and te reception he would get from United makes the hair on my neck stand on end.

Absolute quality striker and one of the best we'll ever see for an out and out goalscorer

Spurs really should be in there for him. They need a striker who can actually put the ball in the back of the net and who can play up front of a 451. They were linked to him a lot last season and they'd be crazy if they don't try again.

Plus from his point of view, he wouldn't be dropping too far down the pecking order. Indeed, I guess going from Hamburg to Spurs is an improvement.

Would be a decent move for both parties. Blackburn get a quality forward who brings plenty of experience to the table and Ruud gets regular football back in the PL.

Ruud still has 2 good years in him

if he's willing to accept reserve striker status, why don't we go for him?

Chico could learn from him

Doubt Fergie will go for it considering Ruuds history with throwing a strop. As a fan though I would love it, but he's too good to play an Owen-like role for us so he would have to get a few more games in. None of our current strikers deserve less playing time.

In 1999 we had 4 top strikers Cole-Yorke-Ole-Teddy

Rooney-Berba-Ruud-Chico would be great

no room for Owen
If it was a straight choice between Owen and Ruud it'd be a no-brainer if Ruud was happy to be a squad player. But we've got Welbeck coming back as well, and he'll take that fourth spot. I've got no time for these rumours about him being sold or loaned back out.

I wouldn't like to see him ending his career with a club like Blackburn, a striker with his capabilities even at 34 can do a lot better than that, he'd have a role to play in a lot of champions league outfits as a squad player.

I'm willing to bet Ruud would love to come back. Not that it would happen mind.

We don't need Ruud. We've got Rooney, Berba, Chicarito, Macheda and Welbeck.

I said the exact same. If he's willing to be a back-up striker (according to the reports I've read), then I wouldn't mind seeing him back here. The way he left here, well it left a sour taste in my mouth TBH. But, him and SAF have buried the hatchet which I'm glad about because Ruud was without doubt the best goalscorer I've seen in my time of supporting this club.

I wouldn't be against it, I still reckon he could do a job and he could teach the young ones a thing or two about putting the ball into the net.

Another stupid story out of bklackburn. They will be relagated and Kean will get the sack soon enough.

Look at the limited oppurtunities Owen has had this season.

Then add Welbeck back into the mix.

That's what Ruud's got to deal with. Wouldn't be worth it. For him or us.

Yeah he probably would, especially after all the good stuff he's said about us since he's left. It's more down to whether Fergie will have him or not and because of his attitude in the past I doubt he would.

we wouldn't need him, a lot of the time we use one striker leaving Berbatov and Hernandez on the bench, plus the loanees to consider too.
Ruud can do better than Blackburn, and as mentioned Spurs would be a good choice but hopefully he doesn't come back to England

It would be a dream to have him back. I really really want to see him play and score at OT and everyone go all "ruuuuuuuuuuuuud" again.

Exactly. They're only 1 point above the relegation spot with United, Arsenal, and City among their 8 games. They should concern themselves with being in the Premier League next year, not fantasies of which former stars would laugh them off.
