- the fruits of GH's philosophies will be there to see in a year or two - I will quite happily admit that we're not there yet and I can confidently say there is no way we'll win the league this year - we will probably start challenging (to plan) either next year or the year after that.

If you'd actually bothered to have read anything I've ever posted - I said before a ball was kicked that we weren't ready yet and that we were still building.

I would have thought that you (You gave me the impression that you actually knew something about football) would have looked back over time and seen the way successful teams were built and would have recognised that process going on at Anfield.

Obviously I was wrong, sorry..

Rebuilding shouldnt take 5 yrs nowadays,
anyway a few weeks ago we had scousers in telling us how the league was in the bag.

With you being the king of tinkers,,erm i mean scousers i think its symbolic of the way pools season has self imploded in just a few weeks. HTe five yr plan is just an excuse for inevitable failure im afraid.

I see. A well reasoned argument. What you are saying is that we are rubbish and our season is over.

Fair enough. That makes perfect sense.

No other team have had a 'blip' of course this season, have they?

We are in a terrible position aren't we fourth place with a game in hand (Which if won puts us, er, top..

Hmmm...

FA Barclaycard Premiership

P W D L F A GD PTS

1 Arsenal 20 11 6 3 41 24 17 39

2 Newcastle 20 12 3 5 38 25 13 39

3 Leeds 20 10 8 2 30 17 13 38

4 Liverpool 19 11 4 4 29 19 10 37

Yes. You are correct. Our season IS over - we'll be facing relegation next.. LOL.

Ah. but we are showing improvement - and that is all that counts. Most Liverpool fans are happy to be patient and to try and appreciate what is being done at the club.

Man Utd fans, above all others, should appreciate what is going on at Anfield - after all, you spent 15 more years than we have so far in the wilderness.. Unless you're one of the new post 93 fans - in which case, sorry for the reference - which you probably don't understand..

Cheap pre 93 jibes will get you nowhere.
As regards patience ok, but scousers got a bit too overly excited a few weeks ago, and now they're back on this planet which is nice.

I just think its funny to see the pool excuses come out and its stilll Christmas :D

Pool excuses? From me? Perhaps I had a crystal ball on me before the season kicked off? (Chortle)

so what were your preseason expectations?
a cl place and a good run in europe?
That sounds more like Ipswich Towns goal for the season.

After such a successful run last year, I always think that establishing 'base camps' is a good way to go. Getting overexcited was never going to help, so for me this year improvement would be :

To have a decent run in the cups - and achieve the next round (the one we achieved) in the CL - how many years did it take Arsenal and Man Utd to achieve that goal once they were in the competition - and we've done it on our first attempt.. No mean feat for an inexperienced side..

and To achieve 2nd place in the league

I would be delighted with that - it would show real progress - we've managed part one, so it's now that we have to try for 2nd in the league.

If we manage third, again I'd be happy as we've established a plateau.. If we finish fourth - still no disaster as CL football beckons once again.

I would be disappointeed with anything below fourth though..

bullshit, 4 foreigners rule, dont give me that shite, it cant be compared. Take Hyppia, Hamman, Henchoz & Dudek out of Pool and what do you have?

fair enough but i dont believe you, Pool want the title but cant have it

A top four finish, ironic that was allways my aim in the 80's, ;)

The 'plastic treble' really is the funniest thing I've ever heard in my life. Honestly.

Football clubs exist to win cups. If you're saying that there are only two 'real' cups in the world to be won - then you are deluding yourself.

It's OK for now to say that because you are as successful as Liverpool and Leeds have been in the past - but what happens when over the years to come the team changes and your success rate drops? When you can't rely on winning the league week-in, week-out..?

You'll win trophies that you, yourselves have derided and laughed at - and therefore you'll be doing yourself out of any pleasure from the game.

I went to all three finals, and I enjoyed every one of them. I'm proud of what Liverpool accomplished last year - and beating the champions of England for the Charity Shield and the Champions of Europe for the super cup really did put the icing on the cake.

I can only hope that it's just Mancs trying (Unsuccessfully) to wind Liverpool fans up -because if you're not then you really have forgotten about pride, dignity and the history of football.

i wouldnt piss in the

Worthington Cup
Super Cup
The Modern day UEFA Cup
or on the
Charity Shield,

i might perhaps consider taking a dump in the FA Cup but its third on my list a long way off the other two.
Man Utd would have to go a long way down before id even look at them cups.

I feel sorry for you then - I really do.

Football to me is the expectation of your team trying your best against the odds to try and achieve some silverware. To suggest that you are picky and can arrogantly turn your nose up at trophies that don't make the grade is astonishing.

I suppose the rot set in for Man Utd when they refused to play in the FA cup and don't attempt to win the league cup.

That is what seperates them from all other teams and it's a real shame. Soon they'll refuse to play in the English Premier League - it'll be European Super League for them and that'll be the final nail in the coffin for English football..

We'd all probably be better off watching the fishing channel after that.. :(

See the messsage he posted a few weeks ago called 'Prediction Time'. In it he predicted Leeds first and then Liverpool

What about the Leeds five year plan Andy?. Also, I see you predicted us to finished 6th!.

As did the Arse against Blackburn and Bolton against Spurs... You are a sad, self involved, bitter tit sometimes A@A. If poo had won the Real Treble and United did what you did last season, you'd be spouting the same. Domestic League & CL are THE priority for all big clubs in Europe. The FA Cup is and always will be the glamour game in May domestically and is nice to win but to go all guns blazing on all fronts in every competition is virtually impossible.

I am one of the few United fans who think poo's trophy haul was somewhat impressive last season. But I am smart enough to see it in the context of how it was achieved. UEFA cup didn't have the strongest representation by a long way. Your FA Cup (and Worthington Cup) run wasn't littered with strong Premiership opposition like ours in '99. The Charity shield is simply a pre season joke (for us anyway) and the Super Cup v's Bayern didn't have the prestige that warranted a determined Bayern effort.

Again, I'm impressed with the way poo stayed focused and won all the games ... Can't deny that but to say United are showing distain to the lesser comps without widening your spectrum and seeing that others do too is narrow-minded.

Enjoy last season for what it was, a building block. View this season for what it is, a reality check! Maybe next year eh?

We still compete for the cups,
The Charity Shield and Super cup are games we wont mind loosing, id swap both of em for three league points any day.
The Worthington is the next level, while we play our reserves id like to see them go as far as possible, i just hope that if we do ever do well in it well play a reserve team in the final too.
But i wont shed a tear to be knocked out.
Then theres the F.A. Cup, id play a fairly stron gteam where neccesary but if their's a midweek Euro or important league game id expect it come second. The cup final is cool though and well worth winning but if we won just that the season would still more than likely be classified as a failure.

Then theres a big gap to the cups we priortise, the league and the CL. Thats just the way things are.

Ok i enjoyed winning the Rumbelows cup in 1991 but i kept i in context an the scousers did have a god laugh at us winning it even back then.

As for the fishing channel, i believe they've bought up all Pools home games next yr, their going to show em late at night just to fill in a couple of hours

Sending under-strength teams out in any competition is pissing on the faces of the opposition. I'm disgusted when we do it, and others do it. You ought to have more respect.

Would you send out your first 11 when your playing Scunthorpe in the Worthless Cup 3rd round, nah its called the real world.
If utd took these comps seriously how would the small clubs like Leicester and Liverpool ever win anything? ;)

The point was that you should send out your best XI, so as to show respect to the other side.

If United took these comps seriously, we'd probably take the championship year in year out. ;)
