Just a video codec problem. If you can't be bothered finding the codec needed, just download VLC player

Thanks mate I could see the goals with VLC. Sorry to be so ignorant but what exactly are codecs and how would I remedy the problem?

Codec is just a piece of software that compress/decompress a video/audio signal. So for some videos, you need to install additional codecs for Windows Media Player.

I have these two codec bundles installed:
http://www.divx-digest.com/software/xvid.html
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/ffdshow.cfm

and that usually takes care of everything.

You could give them a try if you want, but when in doubt, just go for VLC as it doesn't require you to install any additional codecs
