BioShock Confirmed for PS3
Would you kindly believe the rumors now?
By Michael Donahoe, 05/22/2008

Cue the I-told-you-so's -- the everlasting rumor about last year's Xbox 360 hit BioShock popping up on the PS3 turns out to be true. According to the July issue of EGM, publisher 2K Games has confirmed that the underwater shooter is making the transition to Sony's shores.
Still don't believe us? Well, if you catch yourself a copy of the July issue (hitting subscribers as we speak, and on newsstands on June 3), you'll get the full scoop on how the Xbox 360 will translate (including some potential graphical improvements) in time for the 2008 holiday season.

Along with a chat with BioShock's new creative director Jordan Thomas (taking over the sunken series from creator Ken Levine), EGM has the first screens and info, including some fishy details about the future of Rapture.

Played the demo on the 360, didn't understand all the fuss and never played it again. Incidentally that was the same day I bought sonic the hedgehog for my 360. I think you will all agree I made the right choice...

If you've never played SystemShock 2, then it's one of the best games released in the last couple of years.

However, if you have played SS2, then it's disappointedly dumbed down. fecking console owners

Port or specialist team formed? What engine does this use, UE3?

Started with the Tribes 2: vengeance engine (2.5 I think) then on to 3, yes.

All this bollox about new graphics and the like, well they would have just been spending the 18months on making the engine run well on the PS3 and simply include the downloadable content.

By trying to further push the boat out, then you may be right, may run like ass.

Sony sent quite a few engineers from Cambridge or London, can't remember which, to Epic to get UE running reasonably on the PS3. Unreal Tournament runs well enough, but again, Epic seem to be able to use their own engine like no other.

:D

Designers now think so, and have done since the PS2/Xbox era.

You're not the first person to say that to me in the last few days. And I was actually going to start a thread asking for advice on why I can't get my ps3 to connect wirelessly to the internet. Now I'm not so sure I should, don't want to do anything to enhance the view that all console owners have the IQ of your average farm grown cabbage.

Haha, well I'm a huge console fan so I don't share the same opinion as most designers. Partly because most programmers/artists I know prefer working with consoles, and partly because the Nes/Snes games were notorious for having the harder/better mentality.

It's really as soon as Producers/specialised designers (i.e people who have no real knowledge of what they want or how they can achieve it) came into play, coupled with the PS2 and 360 being closer than ever to PC ports, when the paper was originally published about "specialising games for the breadth of console gamers" of something like that.

It really started noticing with Deus-Ex 2 and the list goes on and on with games effectively dumbed down.

As it should be. Hold all the power for yourself, let everyone else fight for scraps.

Dog-eat-dog!

(Oh and I think it was London, because I vaguely remember one of my old work mates saying something about maybe having to go to Epic, before he went to Liverpool to work on Wipeout).

Bioshock for the 360 is extremely overrated. Didn't it win game of the year last year or something ridiculous? I bought it, played for about 4 days, and then it all became a bit same old same old.
