nicked from another site..

Look at the last 9 draws United have had in the FA Cup.... since the start of the Treble year campaign...

Middlesboro - PREMIERSHIP
Liverpool - PREMIERSHIP
Fulham - Best Nationwide side around
Chelsea - PREMIERSHIP
Arsenal - PREMIERSHIP
Newcastle - PREMIERSHIP
Fulham - Division 1 Champions AWAY
West Ham - PREMIERSHIP
Aston Villa - PREMIERSHIP

7 Premiership sides from our last 9 draws....and the other two were tough as well.

Compare and contrast that with the long sequence of Nationwide sides the Scousers have drawn.

a conspiracy? ;)

Well, in fact the system of this FA Cup is... quite bad and outdated, IMO. What other top cup matches in the world nowaday are being played with only one match every round on the home stadium of one of the team in the match? This FA Cup system just depends too much on luck. The team which is being drawn to play at home has a distinct advantage. Some team can just roll their luck all the way to the final. Because this cup doesn't allow any team to lose even one match, so there is no way back for the team which is unlucky in one match or have an off-day.

That's the essence of the FA Cup and the thing that makes it so much more endearing than many of the other tin pots up for grabs. The fact that you can draw anyone home or away inserts that element of luck which makes it a true knock out trophy. To win it you will have to take on all comers possibly on their home turf, a task which has undone many a top team when facing lowly opposition on a bleak windswept ploughed field with 2000 spectators.

If it were 2 legs, dull teams (like Liverpool ;) ) would shut up shop and win at home but this way you risk an upset. I also strongly disagree with yesterdays idea of seeding teams to seperate the top draws in the early rounds, our advantage is in not entering til the 3rd round and (rightly) stops there.

Sarah's tongue in cheek conspiracy theory might not be all that mad an idea though as 1 big all premiership clash (ideally United) in each round keeps the TV companies hungry for the franchise, they don't exactly fall over themselves for the rights to the Worthy now do they.
