Lancashire Senior Cup
Kick-off: Friday, 3 May, 12:00 PM BST
Location: Carrington, Carrington, Greater Manchester

2 questions. Firstly what's BHC? And why reserves and not U21s?

Edit:

Haha...I only put U21s when it's part of the Barclays Under 21 Premier League. I prefer reserves, that's what mostly everyone seems to call them, up until this year anyway.

I even tried a google search, and the only webpage on the internet that has the words "Manchester United" and BHC is this page and the schedule page.

Well I'm glad we've got that sorted out. But yeah, strange one. At least we only have until Friday to find out.

United's Lancashire Senior Cup tie with Oldham will be played behind closed doors at Carrington on Friday 3 May at 12pm

Did a twitter search and found this tweet.

So it's a Lancashire senior cup game and they've probably messed up the short form for Behind closed doors.

United line up. Johnstone. Hendrie. James. Grimshaw. McCullough. Blackett. Weir. Pearson. Lawrence. Daehli. Van Velzen

Subs. Love. Joel Pereira. Rudge. Wilson. Only 4 subs named

So no Januzaj then

Wouldn't read too much into Januzaj not being involved and the first team at the weekend. Almost none of the regular U21s are playing today

Yeah, no one from the team that started on Tuesday is playing this game. It's basically the U18 top dogs + those in between the 2 age groups.

Buzzkill.

I'm actually disappointed Januzaj isn't playing, would love to see more of him alongside Daehli and Pearson. Lets be honest now, he's not going to play against Chelsea and even if he was it would only be 10-15 minutes max so it's not as if he wouldn't be able to handle playing 45-60 minutes in this game.

2-0 to United right now.

Lawrence penalty and Van Velzen the scorers.

Final score from the Cliff. #mufc Reserves 3 - 1 Oldham. Very one-sided game with United missing a host of chances.

Daehli scored the 3rd.

A mixture of out with the old and in with the new.

Res: United 3 Oldham 1

Warren Joyce’s young Reserves side booked a place in the Lancashire F.A. Senior Cup final following this stroll in the sun against neighbours Oldham at The Cliff.

The Reds remain in line to sweep the board, for the second successive season, with qualification for the Barclays Under-21 Premier League knockout stage and a place in the Manchester Senior Cup final already assured.

United, with several Under-18 regulars drafted in, took control of the game early on and rarely loosened their grip against a visiting side that sported no fewer than five trialists in their ranks.

Gyliano van Velzen and Tom Lawrence were presented with decent chances to open the scoring soon after the start, but the visitors defended well to prevent any concessions. However, the feeling was that it was only going to be a matter of time before United would strike.

And so it was, in the 26th minute, that the home side moved into the lead with Lawrence firing home from the penalty spot after being fouled by the Latics’ Jack Truelove.

United were on their way, and five minutes before the interval the lead was extended when van Velzen capitalised on lapse of concentration in the Oldham defence to round the keeper and net. Mats Daehli also found the net, following a session of neat passing football, in the 62nd minute, to put the game well and truly out of the visitors’ reach.

United introduced three young substitutes during the second half of the game, but it did little to change the pattern of the game. Res: United 3 Oldham 1

On a slightly brighter note for Oldham, they did have something to celebrate with four minutes to go when Carlton McIntosh, one of three Latics’ substitutes, claimed a consolation goal. James Wilson could have restored the three-goal advantage in final seconds, but he pulled his shot wide from a favourable position.

United, the current holders, will now meet Manchester City in the final at L.F.A. County Ground, Leyland, before the start of next season.

United: Johnstone; Hendrie, McCullough, Blackett, James (Love 74); Grimshaw, Weir (Wilson 69), Pearson (A Pereira 69), Daehli; van Velzen, Lawrence. Subs not used: Sutherland, Rudge.

Good stuff, especially given that this is mostly our U18 side.

Time to batter the 'elite development squad'.

Apparently the Oldham manager said there were a lot of scouts at the game because we're releasing a lot of the players that played.

United: Johnstone; Hendrie, McCullough, Blackett, James (Love 74); Grimshaw, Weir (Wilson 69), Pearson (A Pereira 69), Daehli; van Velzen, Lawrence. Subs not used: Sutherland, Rudge.

The players in bold seem certain to stay, to me, so if 6 constitutes a lot then fair enough. But I wouldn't be surprised if we kept Blackett and Grimshaw too.

Doubt Blackett or Grimshaw are leaving tbh. Hendrie, Van Velzen seem candidates to leave. Mccullough if he still has off field problems.

Sutherland, dunno about.. Good keeper but has Pereira and Gollini ahead of him.

Just realised Pereira played, bit of a leap for him.

Is he still only 16 or is he 17 now? Either way it's a jump considering he doesn't play week in week out for u18s.

Pereira's played two U18 games all season - he's not ahead of Sutherland. Not much in it between Gollini and Sutherland either - Gollini a few more U18 appearances, Sutherland one more appearance for the 21s/reserves.

I'd be surprised if more than three of that squad are released tbh - Hendrie, van Velzen and McCullough (and the latter only if the club really can't get past his disciplinary issues). No chance Grimshaw leaves after playing all but seven minutes of the season for the 18s.

He's 8th in appearances for the U18s, the only midfielder with more appearances is Pearson. With Pearson leading the team with 35 starts it does make Pereira's 22 seem less impressive, but then Pereira has scored 8 to Pearsons's 6 and I'd wager he assisted about as many too. Only Wilson and Byrne have more goals for the U18 team.

At least for my money he's a fine prospect and think he deserved to play in that game as much as any U18 player.

Oh really, thanks for telling me I didn't realise he'd played that much. Either way he's still relatively young compared to the others, not that I have an issue with players having a jump in teams.

U18s Grimshaw, Wilson, Pearson all on the bench tonight with likes of Hendrie, McCullough and Van Velzen nowhere to be seen. Can't help thinking that's another clue that the latter three are being released.
