I have a video of George that shows that goal and it is indeed freaky. Tierri Henri did a similar thing a week or so ago for the Arse. The pace was just hard to believe.(I think Henri hit the post) but George as usual finished it off (something I think Giggsy has lost the ability/desire to do in the last few years).George was a superb player....

Best cant be compared with anyone in England at any time, best player to grace the English game bar none.

And this is coming from a Liverpool fan aswell

It's pretty hard not to make comparisons when they appear on the front of United promotional videos together etc. I like Giggs a lot, I like any player who is willing to duck and weave through the masses, Giggsy used to do it a lot, George always did it. There is a similarity here. I'm not going to the enth degree but there is.

As for skill level, strong tackling, accurate heading, perfect volleying, two footed ability ( he played a whole game once just using his left foot to prove a point), vision, cheek, pace, good looks, e type jags, houses in Bramhall, birds with big tits, yeah you're right. George is three decades ahead of anyone..........

Best was without a doubt the most talented and most skillful player in Uniteds history. The sad thing is that he lacked the lifestyle and character to show his huge potential over a long period. If you go to France, Germany or Italy he is more famous for being a "alcoholic beatle type" than being a great footballer. If you ask there for a british player who can be named in the same breath as Pele, Cruyf,Beckenbauer, etc. People will always name Bobby Charlton and not George Best which is pretty sad imo.

A couple of fair points. Sir Bobby has become the elder statesman, much like the Kaiser (and I have no problem with that) but on the day there's no doubt who was the most exciting player of the sixties. Pele has refered to George as 'the greatest' but I'm not sure if it's tongue in cheek such was the humble nature of Pele. The difference between those two wasn't that much, I guess you just have to like one more than the other in terms of personality not ability.

As far as foreign clubs acknowledging George's skill, well it's far easier to call him a drunk and yet Maradona is still revered (how strange, it's not like he didn't have a habit or something At least George wasn't a cheat.

'Hand of God' my arse

Like Maradona, George had the ability to take the piss out of anyone, change the game, and deliver the goods even when everyone around him had either got too old or were just plain shite. That to me, played more of a role in his gradual demise than anything else. He got fed up of doing it, so did Maradona.

United should have invested around George after '68 but they didn't.

Boredom, Money, Women, Cars and Booze surely a recipe for mischief.

Comparisons between Giggs and Best are natural, however un-merited. Both are fantastic talents who will never play in the world cup. Giggs on top form has an air of Georgie about him but there is only one George Best and no-one will ever eclipse his legend.
In 30 years time we will still be talking about George Best, but no matter what else Giggs accomplishes in his career, in all probability the only thing he will remembered for it that goal against the Arse.

that; 'trying'.

I've got 3 vids of his, including the one he made with Giggs. Despite their mutual admiration Best was in a different league. Marvelous player.
