Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of contoversy about your other choices, but the ones in bold are just plain ridiculous.

This topic doesn't make sense... Every player excelled/excels in his time.. it is very difficult to make comparisons or even group players of different generations to make an all time best X1!

Solskjaer isn't even a regular starter in this United team, he's hardly going to get a spot in the All Time XI.

I choose the strange 3-4-3 because we have/had more great strikers and midfielders than defenders.

Schmeichel

Bruce-Stiles-Irvin

Beckham-Keane-Robson-Giggs

Charlton-Cantona-Best

Not a bad team ;)

At least in the sub's list .. He's had the best reputation as a Super Sub!!

Nobody's even mentioned Denis Law, which is very strange.

You could probably put out two or even three United's all time best XI!!

What No big Paul McGrath, I'll have think on my top 11, will post it up later today, maybe someone could add all the votes up, and we can have an ultimate 11???

Just a thought

Do it when Ichk is not around please mate. It'll be the end of the thread otherwise.

greetings jedi....jedi master's selection:

Best XI from players I have seen:

Schmeichel

Albiston
Buchan (every time!!)
Johnsen
G. Neville

Keane
Giggs
Beckham

Best
Law
Charlton

OK and much pain and sweat I'm going for it, controversy and turmoil, but this is it, no looking back:-

Shmeichel
Bryne Edwards McGrath Irwin
Charlton Best Keane Giggs
Law Cantona

Subs:-
Stiles
Tommy Taylor
Robson.

Thats that, if they have been left out, they were not good enough, I think

Charlton wasn't a midfielder though was he?

And what's Edwards doing at CB?

IChk will be along in a minute to rip you apart, perhaps.

Shmeichel
Bryne Edwards McGrath Irwin
Charlton Best Keane Giggs
Law Cantona

Sounds really strange for me;
Charlton was a striker not a midfielder; Best was a winger/striker but never a central midfielder.
I think a United XI should only involve players on their natural position. Otherwise someone will pick up 7 strikers next time.

;)

Schmeicel : Carey (capt) McGrath Stiles Byrne :
Best Crerand Edwards Charlton : Taylor Law

subs: Cantona Best Keane Robson Giggs Beckham

Hang on Hang on, I thought long and hard over that selection, so the reasons for my choices are:

1 Edwards, played centre half for Manchester United on numerous occasions, he made is England debut at centre half. He even scored from that position against the Germans, who then went to give him the nick name, 'Boom, Boom, Edwards'. Experts at the time said that Bobby Moore may never have been a regular in the team, as Edwards formed a formidable partnership with Billy Wright.

2. Bobby Charlton is quoted as saying in the Eamonn Dunphy biograhy, 'Strange Knid of Glory' about Sir Matt that 'He played on the right wing, although it wasn't has fave position, he played there without complaining, because of his respect for SMB'

3. C'mon lads you have to include Best in there somewhere, at times later on in his career he played, in the centre, so it's my team my choice, but none of the positions are alien to the players.

Phew that was a bit of a rant

I hate these type of topics every time I pick a side I think of players i've left out ,now if it were about 20 per side it would be better

Ok you have a point ;)

But I still think we should pick players in a XI on their familiar positions. Charlton and Best have of course to be in the side but on their natural positions. Or do you really believe that Best was a better CM than Robson or Charlton was a better wide midfielder than Beckham. I don`t think so.

My side is selected from six decades of United sides. Nobody is playing out of position except perhaps Bobby Charlton on the left. he finished his career as a deep lying centre forward. Edwards could play anywhere but I've got him in midfield where he belongs. Taylor and Law remain United's greatest stikers of all time - just look at the statistics. Best could play left or right or in the middle - I've got him on the right.
Very great players the lot of them and a well balanced side I think.

"Very great players the lot of them and a well balanced side I think."

True but I think some other players of the 90s deserve a place in the team too. Never before did United dominate English club football over such a long period.
