Ach..away and print yer Shite!
Having watched the brilliant Ashes to Ashes tonight, I was struck by how cool some of that early 80's music sounded...
In one scene they played " I'm in love with a German film star" by The Passions. In my humble opinion the finest single of that mad decade..
So what was yours?

At the moment, that song. Recently discovered it on the 12"80's compilation.

To be fair that clip doesn't really do the song justice...the duffers at the Top of the Pops production team probably thought Ahhh! german film star..lets throw up some images of Marlene Dietrich, convieniantly ignoring the fact that the song is obviously about a Male actor.. Its best listened to with no visuals.. just lose yourself in the brilliance of the sound .

Hard to pick out one. I'm a bit hazy about what came out in the late 80's or early 90's. The BANDS I loved then were The Undertones - (ah, Teenage Kicks) Specials, Clash, The Smiths all that era. Anything by these were my fav. and of course New Order. I loved Bananarama - anyone remember Siobhan Fahey?:drool:

Loads to choose from:-

Blue Monday - New Order

Bell Lugosi's Dead - Bauhaus

Mad World -Tears For Fears
Religious Persuasion - Andy White

Plus any number from Simple Minds, Depeche Mode, The Cocteau Twins, The The, U2, Tom Waits, The Smiths, Talking Heads, Crowded House and REM.

1960 - 70 is better..............................IMO

1960 - 70 is better..............................IMO

discounts far too many outstanding albums from 70-75 for me which outnumber those from 60-65 quite substantially imo...may have been some cracking singles in 60-65...maybe more so than 70-75...but im an albums guy so its 65-75.

plus 60-70 discounts alot of neil young, sabbath, zeppelin and many many more band's best work....cant be having that.

That is some seriously good shit you've posted there..I'm gonna limewire me all eight of those and have a 'wibble-tastic' 80's nostalgia-fest!

I never even knew the name of my favourite 80's group. I was only little and my Mum and Dad always had them on in the car. I remember them now though and I think they're great, just never been able to find them since. fecking childhood memories

I don't remember any lyrics, just the sound. It was pretty depressing, low tempo stuff, with a female lead singer. That's about all I can describe

Most records by Michael Jackson
Madonna - la Isla Bonita, who is that girl, holiday etc.
Gregory Isaac - Night Nurse
UB40 - Shit loads of songs
Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just wanna have fun, Time after time
The Bangles, Betty Milder plus a few more.

Michael Jacksons Thriller and Bad albums set a standard in music that nobody can match.
