Best performance ever by a red

Which player and in which match has a United player performed the best single display for United, it doesn't neccessarily have to be a big notch game, but maybe a match where natural skill or leadership took over?

I'd like to hear your replies- personally I am undecided.

This is obviously very subjective, but for me Denis Law against Arsenal at Highbury in 1964/65 season. Scored two goals was absolutely everywhere and totally dominated the game - never seen anything like it in terms of a complete individual performance. George Best against Chelsea in the same season comes a close second.

Endorse the above and

Mark Hughes 1991 European Cup Winners Cup Final.

Ryan Giggs (4-0) versus Porto.

Keane (3-2) in Turin.

One Remi Moses in the semi-final first leg against Juventus 1984.

Cantona vrs Sheff Weds 1994 - 5-0.

What about Ruud's hat trick against Newcastle?

Didn't see Robbo against Barca, only the match highlights, so my vote goes to Keane.
Got a goal that put us back in the match, and the way he play after knowing he couldn't play for the final is just magnificent, truly a captain performance.

I heard George's destruction of Benfica (5-1) in Lisbon in 1965 when he was 17 was pretty special.

that plus Big Pete in the SF replay against Arsenal in '99. couldn't stop Bergkamp's wicked deflection but that penalty save plus playing injured towards the end

His celebration in the Manchester derby was definitely OTT.

He should have taken a leaf from Denis Law - do your job but don't take pleasure in beating the team that he became a legend with.

Yes, but it shouldn't detract from the fact that without Schmeichel, we wouldn't have won the Treble or a few of our other trophies.

exactly

How about Johny Aston in the ^8 European Cup Final ...he tore Benefica apart that night

Real nice night for Johnny Junior.

Said to have had the game of his life.

Schmeichel vs Newcastle at St James Park when we won 1-0. I think it was in 94/95

Eric Cantona @ Maine Road in 1993 we we're 2-0 down at half time and he dropped back to midfield and ran the show. we won 3-2 in the end.

2-0 up and fecked it up C**y is their name.

So I hear... but wasn't Bestie the star?

Not in the final. Bestie was the star in a previous match against Benfica 2 or 3 years earlier I think.

That's right. Bestie was closley marked and hacked down time and again. Not that that kept him totally quiet of course and he still produced some great moments including the goal of course. John Aston was the star, however.

Best was definitely the star of the 5 -1 EC quarter final win against Benfica on their ground two years earlier. Incredible performance.

and turned him into a superstar, overnight...

Becks in the Nou Camp final, pulling his tripe out with 5 mins to go when others in red shirts had given up. More Robbie Savage than Zinade Zidane maybe, but he was never more of a United player than he was in that game, before the celebrity and Ingerlund fixation took over.
