Bellion's set to become a Devil

Sunderland's flying Frenchman David Bellion is on his way to Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson failed in a bid to take Bellion to Old Trafford during the January transfer window.

But the Frenchman turned down a new deal with the Wearsiders earlier this year, sparking interest from Liverpool and Paris St Germain.

But I understand Manchester United will finally get their man this summer.

Old Trafford scouts saw Bellion star in an Under 20s tournament in Jersey last summer and have been tracking him ever since.

And former Sunderland coach Ricky Sbragia has given Ferguson glowing reports on the youngster since moving to Manchester himself late last year.

Bellion flew home to France last week to recover from a bruised ankle picked up in training, claiming he still didn't know where his footballing future lay.

"I don't know what is going to happen - I will keep working hard and see what happens," he said.

Bellion is a product of the French academy which groomed both Patrick Vieira and Zinedine Zidane.

He arrived on a free transfer from AC Cannes in July 2001, signing a two- year deal which expires this summer.

And because he is only 20 the Black Cats will be due some compensation when he signs on the dotted line for the Red Devils.

I hope this is not true, I don't rate this guy THAT highly, otherwise he wouldn't be playing for Sunderland....

Ask yourself this question Paz.Does Fergie know more about these type of players than you ?.I have seen Bellion a couple of times and think with the right tutoring at OT he could become a very good player for us.Extremely quick has a good shot on him and could also be nurtured into winger if need be.For around a million quid i think we should get him.

I live in the NE, and I've read the Sunday Sun this morning. There's a few quotes from "sources close to the player" who suggest that this is a done deal.

There's a load of names flying around at the moment, but I think this one's a near certainty.

For those who haven't seen him play - think Lua Lua from Newcastle, but twice as fast. In fact he's probably the fastest player around right now.

I know a lot of Sunderland season ticket holders, and they say the best word to describe him is 'un-orthodox'. He can go from looking like a world beater to a pile of shite in a matter of seconds. You just don't know what you're going to get from him.

And although most people see him as a striker, - he's actually played most of his games as a right winger.

Yeah, but then why would he playing for SUNDERLAND??

You know, you really are quite an idiot.

Not everything works like championship Manager, the best players dont neccairy play for the best clubs.

When we bought Solskjaer he was playing for some obscure Norweigen team, the same with Johnson. Ive seen bellion play, he has talent, lots of pace, and a good shot on him. He's not anywhere near the finished article but id welcome him on a free, and im sure with O.T coaching he can be nutured into a top player.

Face it Spaz, were not gunna end up buying ronaldo, zidane and whoever else you think we should be buying, sometimes youve got to look at youth and raw talent, bellion has these.

Id welcome him but not as our only signing thats a striker. We need a striker who'll make an impact nearly straight away, not just for the future. But i certainly wouldnt turn him down on a free, he's an immense talent. Wenger and Houllier are already sniffing round him, so he must be pretty decent in other peoples eyes aswell.

Good POst....but only Bellion won't be enough...
Bellion +Kewell or Cisse... :D

Just think, when we bought Silvestre who would have thought a few years later he would make the left back position his, and the thought we could get Bellion on a FREE.

Well, Silvestre wasn't THAT cheap, and right now he seems to be struggling to make left back his. And Bellion WON'T be free.

Even I would have to concede that Mickey is not having a hard time making the LB spot his.

That goes down to experience and you could see how "raw" he is still ... but ask yourself if you know him ?? will he turn gooood !!?! YESS YESSSSS ... I have seen him play early this season and since then I have been following his progress ... I have written a lot abt him in this forum so I guess I will safe that for now ...

If you have seen Henry played in Juventus shirt before ... you will probably agree too ...that he looked really aimless always !! .. that's very much down to the team he's playing with and the type of game he's being asked to do .. So same goes to Bellion - what do you expect when he's playing in a team like SUN ha (not saying they are damn lousy but they really didn't play well at all the whole season)?

I guess when he quitted Cannes - he was just looking to futher his career overseas. I read before that Peter Reid has some connection in France and hence they have got the insider news and snapped him up immediately ...

Maybe a third. He's basically a Sunderland reserve.</strong><hr></blockquote>

Anything in that region should already be a good business. I actually can't sense much difference btw him and Forlan ( except Diego is already an international for his country ). Since we are ok to splash out 7mil on Diego .. so what's 1.5mil ??
And we have a good omen in 1.5mil purchase ... remember Eric and Ole ?! ;)

VanNist. has said it very well there - face it !! we won't be buying another 30mil player this summer ... I will be only happy if we could go back to the off-season where we get Ole and Johnson and co basically from unknown world ...

He can't be our main buy...
Just some side kid to groom to keep you guys happy and maybe groom for about 5-6 years later...

We've already gor Forlan, and loads of kids in the reserves, we don't need more kids FFS, we need a proper Champ's League/Premier League/Cup striker....

When i first seen Henry at Juventus he really was bad just plenty of pace and a few other attributes.Bellion really looks quicker than Henry and if we can get him he could turn out to be something special in a few years. He was at the french school of excellence and worked under Filho is a youth coach at OT.I bet Filho has had some things to say about him.I would prefer us to buy young players than big signings because its just gonna disrupt our play and formation again unless its a direct replacement.WE do need a striker in the £5- £10 million bracket for me.Cisse and Bellion would be my 2 forward purchases if possible.

hey Penny le roi cost us just 1.1 mil ;)
what a fecking overrated twat he was

Isn't he out of contract in the summer......so would be on a free. He's got bags and bags of potential and he's left footed, if I'm not mistaken.

Yes he is out of contract, but he's too young to get a free transfer. A tribunal would set the level of compensation that Sunderland received.

Considering that this would probably be less than a million - you can't really go wrong for that kind of money. If he's crap and stays crap, - so what!

But if the coaching staff can smooth his rough edges then we're laughing.

Don't expect him to press for a first team place for a few years though, he's a mile away from that level yet.

The comparisons with a very young Henry are quite accurate, but the Henry of today still isn't as fast as him.

I think he won't need to wait for few years to get a taste of 1st team football. With the number of games that Man Utd is playing - I could see him playing 10-15 games a season easily ... and I have every confidence he will shine ...

Mark my words first ... I haven't given up my hope to become Man Utd's chief scout !! ;)

I am not Bellon’s NO 1 supporter but watching Henry since his early age I cannot not pointing out the similarities of these two players.

Bellon (even Henry then) is a bit raw, he lacks of positioning and that had forced Sunderland to utilize him as a winger rather than a forward (something that will be arranged due time) but he has a good technique and a frantic pace (good foundations for a player). Its whether or not our coaches can exploit
His talent fully

I would utilize him on the wings but my aim would be on having him in the forward line.

is everyone serious about him looking quicker than henry?
...we'd need to keep him on an elastic band ffs

They were worth the money but Robbo was a waste ;)
