FROM SUNDERLANDTODAY

bellion move is agreed

DAVID BELLION'S move to Manchester United is done and dusted and now only awaits official confirmation.

The flying Frenchman's contract with Sunderland runs out at the end of the month and until June 30 there is likely to be no public announcement on the 20-year-old's future.
But the deal with United is already sewn up and Bellion will be a member of Sir Alex Ferguson's squad when the new season starts.
Sunderland fans are likely to have to a few more weeks to wait before hearing official confirmation that Bellion has finally become a Red Devil - ending United's season-long pursuit of the talented youngster.
But the Frenchman's move has already been set-up and now the only question remaining is what compensation Sunderland will seek.
Sunderland chairman Bob Murray was furious at United's attempt to lure the young forward away from Wearside during the course of the last campaign, and took the unusual step of publicly slating the Old Trafford club for their approaches.
Now it seems likely that Sunderland will seek to take the case to a tribunal and ask for substantial damages.
Bellion's signing of a new contract was regarded as something of a foregone conclusion before the sacking of Peter Reid in October.
But in the the aftermath of his departure, United's interest in the player was made clear and the Frenchman stalled on a new deal before finally deciding to exercise his right to move under freedom of contract this summer.
Murray is convinced that Bellion would almost certainly have stayed at Sunderland had United not turned his head.
And when the player's move is officially confirmed, Sunderland are likely to make an official complaint about the way the deal was progressed.
Meanwhile, the club is carrying on with its efforts to offload players, with Tore Andre Flo attracting surprise interest from Spain.
The club's £6.75million record signing was expected to remain on Wearside after an unimpressive debut season made it likely that no-one would be interested in signing a player who picks up in the region of £40,000 a week.
But Real Betis are reported to be monitoring the Norwegian's situation and today it emerged that a second Spanish club has shown interest in the player - both clubs considering offers in the region of £3million.
Flo would favour the move having last week expressed a desire to move to the continent if a deal could be done.
And Sunderland would jump at the chance to shed a player who is on massive wages and whose future contribution to the club must be in doubt, given the more physical nature of the Nationwide First Division.

Well, there is that. But much as we all love the man, is there any point pretending he's beyond reproach in the transfer market? Considering last year he spent £50m on Veron and Ferdinand, both of whom have been pretty disappointing. So the question is, "Is Bellion any good or not"? Not "is Fergie a better judge than me or my mate" - course he is, but he still bought Poborsky.

He gets it right more often than not..(better than Wenger and Houllier..both have a dodgy record in the transfer market)

8 out of 11 PLs is proof.

The coach who joined United from Sunderland is the best judge of all, and he recommends Bellion, that's good enough for me.

What susbstantial damages can Sunderland claim, he's been with then for a couple of seasons and they signed him on a free in first place, after Cannes put in several years of training etc. and they did not receive a penny as far as I know.

Um...Veron was bought in 2001, not 2002...SAF only brought in Rio, Lopez, and a couple of youth players during the 2002-03 season...

Cheers Wood, still waiting for you to break your intelligence cherry. It feels good, I can tell you. Still, console yourself with the thought of how well you're doing in the witlessness stakes.

Yeah OK Marcello, the £50m-odd wasn't spent in one year, but the point remains - you can love SAF without fooling yourself that he's immune to misjudgements...

Question:

What does this name mean?

Plechazunga

Is it
a) A virus that attacks computer hard-drives
b) A chemical to help stop rot in trees
c) An ancient warrior from Asia about 10 b.c

All answers on a postcard

I don't think signing a 20 year old is a bad move especially considering the fee and low wages involved...the kid has played first team football...and United have Nardiello, 20, and Weber, 21, playing for the reserves...and which of them have played a great deal of first team matches?...neither...this could very well be another SAF gem find and if he fails to make a first team spot in the next 3 years, then nothing was lost...he could very well reach his peak by age 23 or 24 and then United have found another Soslkjear...and he obviously wants to be associated with United...when he could sign for various other clubs and greatly enhance his chances of immediate first team action...

Yeah, sounds very sensible - as I said I don't know much about Bellion. All I was quibbling with was the suggestion made by some of the others that merely suggesting that SAF might be making a wrong move was somehow sacrilegious...

Everyone makes mistakes...Jimmy Johnson is lauded for his drafts with the Cowboys...but he made some bad picks along the way (Alan Veingrad was one)...he made some good picks for Miami too, but had quite a few more missed hits there than in Dallas...SAF has made some bad moves, but his great moves far outweigh the negative moves...he has failed to make some moves that he should have though...but that is more a PLC thing...if SAF had unlimited funds (i.e. a billionaire owner), then he would have signed the likes of Ronaldo and Thuram...

Huge waste of money Rio and Seba. Right.

"From: London"

Tell me, were you a life-long Arsenal supporter last year? <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" /> <img src="graemlins/wenger.gif" border="0" alt="[Wenger]" />

Er...yeah, good one. No, lifelong UTD as it happens, as my old man's from Cheatham Hill. But then I suppose I'd have to be a gooner to see that Seba's not good for us...? Because that makes so much sense...

So, we rid of Seba ey?
Veron is a key key part to our european campaign, if hed been fit for the real games i think our chances would have been greatly improved.

We sell seba That takes away a HUGE part of our european team, thus weakning us in the CL.

Then we get knocked out of europe again, and people like yourself whinge that we're not good enough to win it, dont have the squad, dont have players who can unlock defences in the CL etc.

Seba stays, people whinge and say hes not good enough.

SAF cant win can he

Typo in Cheetham, eh Giggzy? Unforgivable. Well, as I said, it's my dad who was born there not me. Is it really full of gooners? What the f*ck are they doing there?

You're not really a scouser are you Weaste? It would be a shame, as you seem to be 1 of the few who talk any sense on this site. I'll just keep on thinking of you as a Salfordian.

True. Sorry. Oversight. They are truly a load of moaning bitter ignorant sorry b*stards.

What really annoys me about them is the way they think that by virtue of being scouse b*stards they somehow are imbued with this mythical football wisdom, which enables them to do things like clap furiously when Murphy sprays a bog-standard 30-yard pass to the wing, the kind of thing any moderately gifted 11-year-old can do. 'Steeped in history'. Steeped in shlte more like.

For a truly superb demolition job on the city, residents and nauseating accent, go to the CRAPCITIES website - can't remember the URL but it's on google. Inspired stuff.

Come on guys ... I have seen him play and have read a lot abt him ... For anything below 2mil it will definitely be someone worthy a try. He's just 20 and dubbed "young Henry" ... what else you want to ask for ?? and he probably will be the only one that could catch Giggsy for dribbling ...
;)
