Has anyone been watching this? I've got to admit, I was pleasantly surprised. I saw it advertised on BBC Three and it piqued my interest, but it wasn't until I noticed it on iPlayer the other day that I watched the first episode.
It's actually very good, mixing some strong comedic elements (though nothing slapstick) with a hefty dose of darkness and a heavy plot. I believe this is a six-part miniseries commissioned off the strength of a one-off show they made in early 2008, but I never watched that. It's completely revamped (see what I did there?
) as far as I can tell, though, with only the werewolf character played by the same actor. The vampires in the original show appear to have fallen into the age-old trap of having a gothic (and in more modern times, emo) feel to them, and they've scrapped that for this new series. Now they blend in far better, but haven't really lost any of that "vampiric" feel.
I'd recommend this to anyone who's even remotely interested in this sort of thing. As I said, I saw it advertised on BBC Three and assumed it'd be alright, but not very good, but I was wrong. Last time I checked it was the most watched show in iPlayer, too, so perhaps others feel the same way.
It's currently labelled as "series catch-up" on iPlayer, meaning all the episodes will stay there until the last one. Seriously, if you like vampires and stuff, or even just good, dark shows, then this one has been very, very good so far.
