Bex is suspended for the game against City after picking up his 5th booking. So with no Keane, Butt or Beckham for the derby, there will be limited midfield options.
that must mean 4-4-2 now surely.

agreed with your line-up but with fortune replacing beckham.

I never suggested him as I've never seen him play on the right. I would therefore be more comfortable putting him on the left and Giggs in the Beckham position.

Well let's hope the opposition gives us plenty of time on the ball, like those nice chaps in the Champions League.
That looks a powder puff midfield - only Scholes of that lot can keep the ball under pressure, and none of them can tackle.
We've got some scrapping sides to face over the next few weeks.
When the going gets tough.....

I agree to a certain extent, but with RVN (very good holder of the ball) back, the midfield could play a little deeper, Verón in particular. Also, the two centre backs I suggested are very good tacklers and could push up. There is no other solution, and it will work. Beckham isn't a very good tackler either, so it's no different from the situation over the last few weeks.

Put Forlan in on the right, as I think Ole plays better on the left. But either way sounds good.
Or you could try something really novel - Forlan on the right, Giggs on the left, and Ruud and Ole up front.

No, you can't do that! Too many players playing in their natural position.

Looks good, dont think SAF will adopt to that tho.

Perfect, just a little play on a 4-4-2. That's all 4-4-1-1 is as well after all. For me, there are only three formations in football. 4-4-2, 4-3-3, 5-3-2. Anything else is a tinkering of 4-4-2 IMO.

I think that it wipes the slate clean, so you need another 5 yellows to get another suspension.

i think the Dutch played with 3-4-3 total football and were very successful in the 70's.
Personally i like 4-3-1-2 very much also. We can utilize the full backs to the fullest and at the same time keep the midfield very tight. With 2 forwards we have a lot of firing power. The only problems are maybe a weak defence and the fullbacks must be extra effective.
This plan would never work at United because of Giggs and Becks. They are excellent on the wings, so that is why i never suggested this as an optimal plan for us.

excellent read into the situation, forlan will finally get a show in his favourite position. Although i still feel SAF will prefer Blanc over O'Shea.
IMO if SAF sticks with 4-5-1 then Chadwick and Phil will make appearances in midfield along with Scholes, Veron and Giggs.
How come people are so against Blanc btw? I think his experience is priceless.
