Beckham scores best TV moment

Simply the Becks: Beckham's goal put England through

David Beckham's goal that guaranteed England's place in the World Cup has been voted television's finest moment of last year by viewers.
The Manchester United and England midfielder's free kick against Greece in the last minutes of extra time came top in a telephone poll held by the BBC.

Veteran chat show host Michael Parkinson hosted the awards ceremony for 2001 TV Moments at BBC Television Centre, in London.

Beckham's goal had already been voted best sporting moment from last year by a panel of television industry insiders.

It triumphed over the winners in five other categories, also selected by the panel, to take the top honour at the ceremony.

Beckham was not among the throng of celebrities who attended the awards show on Saturday evening.

But he commented: "I'd just like to say thank you - it was my best sporting moment of my career.

"It's a very special thing because it's voted for by the public."

It was the best sporting moment of my career

What a feckin prick

The fact that that was the best tv moment of the year says alot about the quality of stuff on the box and, more importantly, about the two-faced nature of some England fans, have they forgotten their Beckham dart boards and hanging up effigies (sp) everywhere?

Exactly!
the 3 big trophies you can win, he won in the space of a week in feckin dramatic one off circumstances, and he reckons scoring the eqauliser at home to a shite Greece side beats that feckin hell wake up Beckham <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" />
If I scored a hat trick in the world cup final it would'nt beat having 5 minutes for United

The difference is that he scored the winning goal in the last minute, and not in the final. It was his own PERSONAL achievement, he put his country through all by himself. In the final, it was a team thing. Thats all.

For a start it was'nt the winner - it was the eqauliser.
And don't tell me scoring a goal in a 2-2 draw beats winning the treble

bla bla bla :p

Your all nuts. Getting England to the WC should be first on his list. Where is your nationalism my god. Winning the treble was a fantastic team accomplishment, but scoring the goal at the death to see england qualify has to be bigger personally for him. Ask Owen if scoring a hatrick against the germans was more important then winning the Liverpool Treble last year. Its not all about trophies its about pride in Country. I would have thought you twats would have agreed.

although after looking at these posts again i see most of your are from football countries who have never lifted the world cup. Beckham's goal along with the 5-1 thrashing they gave the germans signal a rebirth of english football at the highest level. If England reach the final or win the world cup you had better believe that goal was one of the reasons!

One "LOL" for each of the three trophies of 1999..thats what Beckhams attitude is

Youve got to put it all in perspective!
World football is like a league:

Every player starts at the bottom and works his way up....

Playing for your country is the ultimate goal for all Footballers....

So winning something or achieving something for your country would be tops!!

And remember - he is the Captain!

"One "LOL" for each of the three trophies of 1999..thats what Beckhams attitude is "

But I think you well remember that his crosses were the main reason for winning the CL. That without his goal against tottenham arsenal would have won the premiereship. So maybe winning the three trophies wasn`t becks greatest moment ( I personally don´t think so. I would say he just wanted to say something polite for receving this TV award)But however he was responsible for your greatest moment as United supporter. That`s what Beckhams attitude is.
