Beckham has so far refused to sign a new contract
Manchester United have admitted for the first time they are losing the battle to keep David Beckham.
The England captain has so fair failed to sign a new contract and United are aware they could lose a player worth £40m for nothing if a decision is not taken soon.
United chief executive Peter Kenyon believes the contract saga will not be resolved until after the World Cup finals in the summer - if at all.
Beckham's current contract runs out in 18 months time.
You do reach a point where you conclude it one way or the other

He will become a free agent during his final year, which means the Old Trafford club may be forced to put him up for sale before then to cash in on his multi-million estimate.
Kenyon said: "Both sides are frustrated. You do reach a point where you can't go any further and after several months of good negotiations you do reach a point where you conclude it one way or the other.
"We both feel that is where we're getting to.
"Again, we've got to decide pretty quickly what we're going to do.
Bosman ruling
"We would still like to get it completed but you do reach a point when you've got to put it on the back-burner for the club's interest and the player's interest.
"That takes you to the end of the season. And with the World Cup coming up, nothing can be done this summer.
"I think we're close, but there are still gaps.
"David hasn't said 'I'm not going to sign' and we haven't said 'sign this or else'."
Under the Bosman ruling Beckham could leave the club for nothing.
United are determined not to lose out, like Liverpool did with Steve McManaman and Spurs with Sol Campbell.
