BBC lose court battle with the stig

They could conceivably keep Collins on, but just say they have a new stig. Doubt they'd do that though, as the beeb won't be too happy about this. Shame its been revealed, it was one of the best secrets on TV.

Not really that good a secret considering it was already pretty well know, albeit not confirmed.

Easily sorted, they have Ben Collins in the studio and the Stig stood next to him.

Silly situation, he should have held out for a few more series' before selling this book, surely?

I thought it was pretty common knowledge that it was Ben Collins anyway?

I have a friend who swears blind that the stig is Micheal Schumacher. He actually thinks they were being serious in that episode when they did the fake reveal...

He is a stupid stupid boy.

New Sting for next season now? Or they just drop the whole idea for new guest test drivers? Or just have a decent test driver like Fifth Gear?

The clever thing about using the Stig was that you could use any driver for it really, all under the guise of a single person. For instance, when Renault sent their F1 car, I think it was Heikki Kovalainen (their test driver at that time) doing the running.

This was a terribly kept secret anyway.

As a news reporter put it the other day: "If you want to know who the stig is, chances are you already do. And if you don't, it's probably because you don't care."

Which summed it up pretty well.

It's been common knowledge Ben Collins was the stig since Hammond had his accident.

I thought they used multiple stigs anyway?

They do sometimes, like if they go to another country they will sometimes use a different Stig. They used Schuey once when it was some Ferrari going round the track another time too. For all the lap times on the board though it was always Ben Collins I believe.

The Stig provided a comedy element though whilst still being a damn good racing driver. It's not a car review show anymore, it's an entertainment program.
