Bayern Munich are taking legal action against a Stuttgart newspaper after it reported that midfielder Joshua Kimmich would be leaving the club this summer.

Stuttgarter Zeitung claimed on Tuesday that Kimmich, 22, would depart Bayern because of a lack of games, despite him being under contract until 2020.

They stated that he was likely to sign for either fellow German side RB Leipzig or Manchester City.

"This is a monstrous fallacy," said Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

"This story lacks any foundation. Joshua Kimmich has a contract with FC Bayern until 2020 and will definitely play for the next season for FC Bayern."

In a statement on their official website, Bayern stated that the club had "immediately taken legal action against the Stuttgart newspaper".

German international Kimmich played for Leipzig for two seasons in the German second and third division before moving to Bayern in 2015 when now Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was in charge.

He has started 15 Bundesliga games this season, coming off the bench 11 times as Carlo Ancelotti's side wrapped up a fifth straight title.

Haha...If this happened in England!!!!...

More clubs should do this. Football Journalists are being paid to write false Rumours and it is wrong.
No they shouldn't. It would be a massive waste of time and resources. If you want to slam newspapers for printing false news then there are better ways to do so than waste the courts time.

Then we would have to shut down this part of the forum because 99% of the transfer rumors we talk about have no chance of happening.

A newspaper just needs an external source that they can claim to have believed, it's also industry standard practice... BM won't win this. Can you imagine United suing over De Gea/Martial rumours?

Don't courts have better things to do?

Really low from Bayern, they should get fined for abusive procedure.

Precisely. Most of the time it's a sports agent feeding the story to papers to get better conditions or a transfer for their client.

Unless it's the Sun or the Daily Star. Then they really are making stuff up

I would fear for portuguese courts if that happened here

Its only fair considering that their president is a beacon of legality

Think of all that stored up Gaitan and Garay litigation we'd have to pummel Benfica with

What a waste of everyone's time. There's nothing wrong with journalists making up transfer rumours; I mean it;s just transfer rumours for feck sake, it hurts no one. It's up to people to stop being gullible and believing shite from rubbish sources. There's only a handful of sources we should pay any attention to.

I think they want to keep the courts busy so they can forget Hoeness

I'm sure many on the caf would love this type of action. Always found it odd how some are so emotionally wound up by transfers. Half the summer is spent calling for censorship for any journo who ever called a transfer wrong, or asking for a poster to be banned for posting a rumour that was unverified, as they were unsure they could handle such an emotional investment if it didn't come off.

None of it is really that deep.

That's Bayern for you. They absolutely hate when people who are external from the club start telling stories about players who may be unhappy or are not getting enough games. Name me 1 time when Bayern Munich had done that.

Its one of their core values which all their esteemed employees should abide too like paying taxes or not accepting bribes.

I don't think so. How would caf spend off season without transfer rumors?

Just a tweet from Bayern would have sufficed, or a statement off the club or players agent but a day in court is absurd. They're giving the newspaper exposure which is what they want, albeit in a comical manner.

can't blame them,
Most of players will not give Yes/No answer when someone ask them they are staying or leaving.

The part about the posters posting rumors and getting people upset has always confused me. Take for example acquire me, I've seen some outright anger displayed at him when he posts things that he's heard.

If you don't want to believe something then don't, but there's no reason to be getting upset over something as simple as transfer rumors.

Ultimately football is essentially an entertainment industry now, not just a sport. When there's no actual football being played, people want to get their fix in some other way. One of the ways this void is filled is via transfer rumors. People read it, discuss it etc and it passes the time and fills that void. I've always viewed them as harmless, and in some cases entertaining (I found the yearly signing of Gaitan really funny).

There will always be rumors and speculation, if it's not true, than simply ignore it unless it is damaging to your club. I wonder when a club will start legal action against another club for contacting a player under contract and poaching them. That should be fun.

He's a right whinger Rummenigge, no doubt he'll be moaning about how much we've spent again this summer.

I reckon its one of two things, either Bayern want to throw their weight around or there actually was some truth in it and Bayern want to quash it.

Either way its pretty daft, you cant control the trash the media will print so why waste the effort. Its clearly not slanderous or libel in any way is it? So why bother.

Absolute nonsense from Bayern - what legal action, exactly? What would be the mechanism and what outcome are they seeking?

The article has already been printed. They could have intended to sell him and changed their minds for all anyone knows.

It would be hilarious if they did take some sort of action, then decided they actually wanted to sell the player but were stuck with him.

Ridiculous behaviour from Bayern, but people don't normally react like this if there's nothing going on. They've obviously been rattled by something.

A "monstrous fallacy"? Calm down Rummenigge

Retirement of Lahm and Alonso. Robbery mid 30s. Sanches and Coman not progressing as expected. Kimmich not fancied by the coach. Costa and Boateng unhappy and "requesting" moves. Mueller probably not exactly thrilled with his role either. No transfer business done early. I think they are getting a bit nervous, that with a year more experience for all the youngsters and a few more signings that Dortmund and Leipzig could seriously challenge them for the title next year. So when the news came out Kimmich wants to leave (possibly for Leipzig) it triggered this reaction.

Indeed.
In any other profession, if you knowingly spread lies (verbally or in writing), eventually, you will be sacked.
In journalism though, it's okay to do this. In fact, if you print enough lies, you get more views....so it is positively encouraged!

It's stupid even commenting on transfer stories. If you start denying them, when a true one comes up what do you do?

Imagine if we started suing newspapers and agents for falsely using our name for profit, our revenue would put us back above City in the rich list.

What an immature reaction. Grow up and deal with being in the public domain.

It's evident that Rummenigge reacts so laughably aggressive against a transfer story precisely because it hit a nerve.
