Right, as a Red Sox fan, lots of interesting stuff going on this offseason.
Daisuke Matsuzaka was obviously the big story. Frankly he'll probably help the club hugely just by being the biggest Japanese name to play in MLB. Hopefully he's as good as they all say. I'm not quite 100 percent sold on him but it will be interesting for sure. If all of our pitchers stay healthy and just do their usual stuff, then our starting five is quite terrifying.
Schilling
Matzusaka
Beckett
Papelbon
Wakefield
The additions of J.D. Drew and Julio Lugo are also excellent. Both good with their bats and in the field, the loss of Nixon and Gonzalez completely filled. Two decent relievers signed as well, with probably a closer on the way. Manny wasn't sold, keeping the most dangerous 1-2 punch in baseball intact. If Drew is as good as advertised, then the middle of our lineup will be excellent. Also, one can only dream, but if Roger Clemens chooses to play again, it is said it would be between the Yankees, Astros, and BoSox for his signature. I would kill to get the Rocket in Boston for one more shout, but I have a feeling with the men we've already signed it won't happen, even with Clemens' interest.
One final note: I fecking hate the Yankees more than anything else on the planet, but the Red Sox are officially just as cruel with the wild spending in the offseason as the Yankees. The moneybags of Steinbrenner have been equaled by what the Boston front office has been doing in the past weeks. So that's no longer an extra reason to loathe the Yankees, as Boston is just as guilty!
Regardless of what happens, it looks to be a cracking season next year, Boston should be a top contender (more so than usual), and I already can't wait.
