Right, as a Red Sox fan, lots of interesting stuff going on this offseason.

Daisuke Matsuzaka was obviously the big story. Frankly he'll probably help the club hugely just by being the biggest Japanese name to play in MLB. Hopefully he's as good as they all say. I'm not quite 100 percent sold on him but it will be interesting for sure. If all of our pitchers stay healthy and just do their usual stuff, then our starting five is quite terrifying.

Schilling
Matzusaka
Beckett
Papelbon
Wakefield

The additions of J.D. Drew and Julio Lugo are also excellent. Both good with their bats and in the field, the loss of Nixon and Gonzalez completely filled. Two decent relievers signed as well, with probably a closer on the way. Manny wasn't sold, keeping the most dangerous 1-2 punch in baseball intact. If Drew is as good as advertised, then the middle of our lineup will be excellent. Also, one can only dream, but if Roger Clemens chooses to play again, it is said it would be between the Yankees, Astros, and BoSox for his signature. I would kill to get the Rocket in Boston for one more shout, but I have a feeling with the men we've already signed it won't happen, even with Clemens' interest.

One final note: I fecking hate the Yankees more than anything else on the planet, but the Red Sox are officially just as cruel with the wild spending in the offseason as the Yankees. The moneybags of Steinbrenner have been equaled by what the Boston front office has been doing in the past weeks. So that's no longer an extra reason to loathe the Yankees, as Boston is just as guilty!

Regardless of what happens, it looks to be a cracking season next year, Boston should be a top contender (more so than usual), and I already can't wait.

Yanks fan here.
As usual, terrifying offence, suspect pitching.
With the Jays bulking up too, the AL East should still be the best division in baseball.

That BoSox lineup looks ace all capable of being number 1 starters. I hope Philip Hughes gets a chance next year and I also think this Igawa deal is a good deal for the money 20mil for 5 years and great to see Andy Pettitte back.

cubs, cubs, cubs, cubs. Its going to get better for us this year, if only because it cannot possibly get any worse.

Biggest Japanese name in MLB? That title will always belong to Ichiro. F'n stupid BoSox fans.

Not quite what I meant. Obviously Ichiro or Matsui are the two biggest names currently playing in MLB, but Matzusaka is/was the most popular baseball player in Japan. I have no idea how good he'll be, but he's basically the head honcho over there, won everything he could in their leagues at a relatively young age and was MVP in the World Baseball Classic as well, against many MLB players. He has the potential to be bigger than Ichiro (who despite being fantastic has never won a feckin thing) and Matsui (also quite good; has won shite). I assume you're a Yankees fan (might as well assume so I can insult you): so feck off, you haven't won shite since 2000, Steinbrenner's a cuntwad, we beat you in the worst collapse in sports history, and we're simply better than you in each and every facet that can be possibly thought of. Thank you (if you're not a Yankees fan, then you're slightly less of a cum snuggler).

Oh, and since we're taking shots here, I hats the feckin Red Sox almost as much as the Toronto Maple leafs...and that's a lot of hate.

haha, well you finished ahead of us last year, if you're both blue jays fans. so more power to you... the stronger our division, the better games we'll see.

and to ms msp, why do you hate the maple leafs if you live in toronto?

ouch oh okay... erm... I really hate the Habs too, not trying to get into a fight with anyone, but I have to say it.

Yanks fan so I hate the Sox
United fan so I hate Chelski, Arse & the Dippers
Habs fan so I hate the Leafs
Giants fan so I hate the Cowboys

I stay up sunday and wednesday nights often and watch the coverage on channel 5 during the season, usually only if the games covered live mind. If there's a team I follow, it's the white sox, mainly cos of Costner and Field of Dreams!

Boy did he build it...

Ummm... must not be a lifelong Giants fan because they hate the Eagles more than the Cowboys. Most Giants fans I've met actually respect the Cowboys but despise Philadelphia and Washington. They do hate the Cowboys, but apparently not more than Philly or Washington, and they do consider the Eagles as their arch-rival (Dallas has Washington as their arch-rival).

As a Cowboys fan, I despise Washington, then Philly, with the Giants ranking about 6th on my hate list (behind San Fran, Chicago, and Green Bay).

Yanks might now trade Randy Johnson back to Arizona what for I dont know but I think it is a good move for everyone. I read some rumours that the yanks might now go for Zito.

Just that... rumor. I see Clemens wearing pinstripes in 2007. ;)

As for Zito...

Giants reportedly to sign Zito to 7-year deal
- Left-hander will earn around $126 million for deal

Barry Zito and the San Francisco Giants reached a preliminary agreement on the largest contract for a pitcher in baseball history, a $126 million, seven-year deal.

While there was no immediate announcement from the Giants, details of the contract were provided Thursday to The Associated Press by a person familiar with the negotiations on condition of anonymity.

Zito’s agreement, reached late Wednesday night, includes an $18 million option for 2014 that could increase the value to $144 million. Zito must pass a physical for the contract to be finalized.

Zito turned down the Rangers' offer of a six-year, $84 million deal, MLB.com and the Dallas Morning News reported.

The young folk don't understand the true rivalry--New Yorkers HATE all teams from Philly (and should despise all teams from New England). Of course, my support of the New York Football Giants predates the existence of the Cowboys, so it took awhile to grow into hatred of them, especially since Coach Landry (an ex-Giant) and Roger Staubach were a couple of class individuals.
Try living in California--San Fran and the "Raidahs" would top your hate list--and the Rams and Chargers would be climbing the charts. The only professional sports franchise I can tolerate would be the Clippers--and only because they are absolute crap have no known fans.

Lifelong, from when i started watching the NFL, about 15 or so years ago.

I do hate the Eagles and Skins, don't get me wrong, just the Cowboys and the whole "America's Team" BS puts them over the top for me.

feck THAT.

and as for zito: who gives a shit about the giants? they're shite.

Bring on baseball now. It's all Boston has at this point.

If we could only sign Drew now. Rumors still abound about Bonds, Clemens and Gonzalez. At this point I just want the first pitch to be thrown. Can't wait.

Oh yes, and feck the Yankees.

A Sox fan!! Hooray!

And if anybody thinks the team in Boston is 'the Sox', they can go to hell. For years the White Sox have had 'Sox' on their caps and uniform. Chicago had the term well before the chowds in New England.

2005 World Champion Chicago White Sox!

the white sox and the red sox can both feck off. go cubbies.
