Barthez v Fergie

The bald French one wasn't rested on Wednesday night (apparently), he was dropped. Noticed he didn't look too happy sitting in the stands.
If he has crossed Fergie there can only be one winner.
We'll know the truth when we see who's in goal on Sunday. If it's not Barthez then something has gone on and he could be on his way...

He could have done better for all 3 goals against city - and Ricardo is there to make sure his standards don't slip. Carroll to for that matter. But with Rustu available on a free in the summer, I don't think Barthez has many chances left.

Barthez has disappointed me after his first season. He's just not commanding enough and can flit between the sublime and ridiculous far too asily.

I am not very impressed by the play of bartez, i would like to see a little more of ricardo as keeper and see what he can do. Carroll too, he has played fairly well in the few matches he has played in. But they do need to look for a keeper for the future.

Barthez gets a night off for a non-too important European match (as usual really...) and The Sun makes a big deal of it.

How boring.

Having watched Rustu this season regularly, I wouldn't have him replacing Barthez. Might as well play Ricardo!

Obviously you didn't see Rustu's two horrendous clangers last night.

I don't believe that one player, anywhere on the field can be the sole purpose for the downfall of a team, but we need a keeper that is more commanding of the back four and that we can be confident in when it comes to making decisions and communicating with his team mates, e.g. Henry's goal last season and Tristan's when Barthez and Brown got messed up.

I believe Ricardo has the talent to see the season through but I would like us to bring somebody in from within the club. What happened to Luke Steel anyway?

agreed.
Rustu looked awesome in the WC but that doesnt tell us a whole lot.

<img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> Sad to hear that Rustu's form has gone downhill, being on a free it would have made good business, if I had to pick another I would choose Robinson - but he wouldn't be cheap thats for sure.

I'll second that.

I wonder if Fergie will resume his interest in Carini. I rate him quite highly.

Ricardo gave away 2 pens in his last 2 games. Is he the back up we really need to keep Fab on his toes?

didn't see the Leverkusen one, but according to the papers we were lucky to still be with 11 men for most of the game.

I was right behind the goal and I thought he was going to walk TBH.

Every succesful side needs a great keeper. Notice how Seaman and Dudek's form has affected their results.

I'm a fan of having a big commanding goaly - but then again, after watching Smikes for so many years - what Man Utd fan wouldnt be?!?

From the MEN:
"Barthez wasn't going to be playing anyway on Wednesday," said the Reds boss.

"We have to give Ricardo or Roy Carroll games. Ricardo has had one game over in Cyprus and that is not enough time to judge the level between him, Roy Carroll and Fabien.

"Wednesday's game helped us with that and he did well."

So apparently he wasn't dropped. Won't look good for Barthez anyway that Ricardo kept a clean sheet and 'did well' straight after the derby defeat. I expect Alex to stick by Barthez until the summer at least, from all his recent comments.

Bullshit ! I knew that he would not play this game, he hadn't played against Haifa as we were already qualified. It would have been stupid to make him play this one.

Anyway we have seen who was in goal today...

He had done pretty well before the City game, a player can't be at the top all the year unless he's doped.
