Ferguson quote

"Barthez could be back within three weeks. If Barthez were not to make a quick recovery, I would have to think about that (bringing someone in for Champions League deadline)"

Bad news definately, but Im confident in Carrolls ability. What interests me more is how SAF will go about this ? I hope to god if we need to panic-sign a keeper we wont resort to the same quick fixes of 2001 when Fab was injured. Andy Goram anyone ?

We need a world class goal-keeper who can maintain a steady high standard and play in almost every match. Sadly Barthez can neither maintain a steady high standard performance, nor can he remain injury-free for a long period of time. If this time he can't recover in three weeks, I think Fergie should really bring in someone else.

Carroll will do the job. He wont let anyone down.
Talk of signing another keeper is premature IMO. Lets see how the lad handles it first. He'll not become experienced unless he gets the chance.
Besides ive seen him play international teams with N.I and ive always been impressed with him.

I agree it is really bad news....

Step-up Mr Carroll, here's you're big chance.

It's the chance for Carroll to prove his worth - only worry is, if he gets injured.... :(

It certainly is, and if he takes it really well I don't see why he should lose it to Fab when he's recovered. However if he's injured we'd be left with Ben Williams.

Arsenal were left with their inexperienced third goalkeeper last season. Didn't do them too much harm.

Heck, they beat us with him.

Still Barthez is incredibly injured prone for a keeper. He's as bad as Giggs.

Schmeichel had his injuries as well, not to mention Bosnich. Barthez rarely misses more than one game in a row.

Certainly he is.

Now, we only got 2 reliable keepers. At least last seasons, we still have Raymond stand by. And Yorkie too.

IMO we will try and get another keeper, possibly on loan for a season. It's a shame Carini turned us down otherwise he would have been ideal.

Just hope Martin Ferguson is not given the assignment to find another keeper!!

Barthez got injured much more frequent than Schmedichel. Besides, he tended to get injured quite easily in the middle of a match.

Hope Carroll can step forward to take his chance.

With Fab it always seems to be one match here and one match there, with Schmeichel there were less injuries although he could find himself out for a couple of weeks.

Anyhow, no need to panic with another goalkeeper QUITE so soon as we don't actually know when Barthez will be back.

What makes you think Carini turned us down? And if we did want him, what was he going to be? Another backup keeper or we'd actually use a loan keeper as a regular first teamer?

Its a big chance for Carrol and to be totally honest I am starting to be more assured knowing Carrol is in goal....wonder how it will be for the backline.

Suppose we were looking for a new keeper, are there any cheap and reliable charismatic keepers out there? Whilst we still have Barthez, no-one of any stature will come (just see Enke).

Is it his fault ? He has come back the 16th of July, I knew the friendlies would come too soon for him. His preparation wasn't long enough.

After his "annus horribilis", both on a personal and professional level, I hoped that this season would start better... :(
