Barry Bonds

Think he's scared to shoot up before the games now, so his tally isn't going up as quick...

Bonds is the best offensive player I have ever seen and deserves to be a first ballot Hall of Famer on the basis of what he did before he ever encountered performance enhancing drugs, let alone what he did afterwards. I am afraid that he will not be, however, because everyone finds scapegoats useful.

Barry's problem is that he is offensive in more ways than one. He was an excellent player at Pittsburgh in what, I think, were his pre-Balco years, but the objection raised by the media (which are pretty much universal in their dislike for him) is that his power numbers wouldn't be anywhere near what they are, therefore he wouldn't be a guaranteed first rounder, especially after his defensive liabilities came to the fore.

This is afterall, the guy voted off the team at Arizona State (by the rest of the players) dispite the fact he was their best player.

Much as i dislike the guy, the media and MLB in general have got take a portion of the blame in all this. There never ceasing hype of the home run, the way the media sucked McGwire`s cock for so long, these stupid pointless Home Run Derby`s all played there part in Bonds slide into drug abuse.

What really sucks is that he was doing well without Balco. He was posting 100+ homers every 2.5-3 seasons.
